The Running Man - DSI Pro II

I posted earlier in the equipment section re my travails with getting my f3.3 FR to work with my Atik filter wheel. This is my 1st image with the new Astronomik LRGB filters (after ditching the Meade ones). They are much better. They seem to give better images and are more sensitive, fit into the filter wheel and wonder of wonders are parfocal! Only problem is that I have to leave the microfocuser out of the image train.

The running guy still has problems with LRGB registration because of ALT AZ and drizzle issues (I still can't fathom this in Envisage) but I am pretty happy with it. Santa may be bringing a wedge though so this may get me out of drizzle mode!

Autoguided with Orion ED80 & DSI Pro @ f7.5
Imaged with DSI Pro II L 10x40s; RGB 5x20s
Post processed in CS3 and Mr Carboni's actions

Dan I am not up with DSI imaging, however I reckon you did a top job with the running man, certainly up close and personal, and spot on guiding, well done.

Looks good - you may want to take some flats to help with the vignetting though. I think I'll go the Astronomik RGB filters for mine too.....

The F3.3 FR does seem to produce some really good vignetting (and doughnuts that I had to clone out). 1st time use for me so maybe next step is flats as you say Lee. Never done these so I guess its time to build one of those boxes with a light in it.

On the scale - I forgot to mention that in addition to using drizzle to derotate I also set the Drizzle Resolution to 1.5 hence the larger scale.

Yep the colour balance is all wrong - I need to go and google the Astronomik filters to try to work out what the balance should be as I did the same exposures for each colour - I tweaked it a bit in PS and put it on my website - that version is more blue but I think its cheating a bit

Hi Dan, I noticed that your Lum subs are 40 seconds each in Alt/Az. I was wondering how you are getting around the star trailing that occurs in the individual images.

I find that my max is 30 seconds, after that I've got instant star trails in the subs.

Its a bit touch and go and it depends where you are in the sky. I could not get 45 sec subs for example but 40 sec was OK. I imaged 47 Tuc the same night and could not get above 30sec without some trailing.

I'm going to try polar again when I get my new wedge.

Thanks Dan, I'm still saving for my wedge, have been for about a year. I keep getting unexpected bills thrown at me every time I'm nearly there.

Why dont you make your own wedge . Theres not much to them, I made one out of 1.25" plywood using simple tools. Cost me about $25 . Its pier mounted and i haven't had to realign it for two years , and it still works fine for astrophotography.

Hi Philip, I should have clarified that. I am actually saving to buy the materials to make a wedge or I should say my brother in law is making it. He's the cluey one in matters of this nature, I just fix his computer after the kids have been playing on it.
