This is a regretful sale. It's given me great views. My reason for selling? It's getting too big to bother setting up in my old age..:ashamed: "Your best scope is the one you use the most" as they say, which is now my 6" refractor.

Price: EDIT! Dropping the price to $4000 ono. au {Buyer pays freight..Pick-up maybe more suitable}.. Or perhaps swap for a smaller telescope,+ $..APO maybe.

I'm open to negotiations.

That's such a shame. Maybe you could build an observatory (if you don't already have one) and that will cut down on your setup and take down time. If I had a scope as large as that, I don't think I will be able to live with anything smaller :)

The other reason for selling Darren is I will be moving to the states in about 2 years. So in the end, ALL my possessions must be sold etc. Cant afford to ship big telescopes with me. I'd rather start from scratch building another big scope when I get there!

I'm also thinking about selling just the mount & keeping the optics to take with me...

Tony is Striker and he is always buying and selling stuff ;) I see now what you mean. I might have to do something like that in the near future as well as me and the wifey might be going to the states to work for a while when I complete my doctorate studies here in Brissie early next year. Might have to sell off all my meager astro toys save maybe the Orion 80ST, ep's and filter's.

Yep. I can remember my American wife shipping curtains & stuff that she wanted to bring with her to australia over to me here before she was allowed to come. 60 odd dollars aud to send a box of curtains. I can imagine trying to break down & ship a 250 lb telescope!

If I can just sell most of my big stuff, & end up with a decent small telescope that I can take on the plane with me, that would be great.

And you could use it out the Plane's window!!!

"Oooo, look, I can see Fred's place!"

That is a very good idea. You might not even have to build a telescope from scratch. You will then have the american market and you will probably not need to look very far to get good deals. Just try Astromart. Postage is dirt cheap there. I intend to keep my scope with an astro buddy until I am certain we will be staying in the states permanently (because I like Brissie and oz very, very much). In my line (molecular cell biology) we have to get over to the states to do a postdoc for 2 years or more and get some good paper publications in highly rated international journals to get good jobs. I think I will be getting much bigger scopes for lower prices when I get over there. But the 80ST and photo tripod is likely to make the trip over with me. But this is still all up in the air so I might just be planning too far ahead :) Anyway good luck with the sale!
