I'm going to auction of a few items over the next weeks with the proceeds to go to IIS. This is the first of a number of items.

I'm not quite sure how well this will work, but we can fine tune as we get along. If you PM me with a price I'll post the highest bid on a daily basis. The auction will go for a week. I'll cover postage within Australia but I'm not going to send anything overseas or first class air.

The first item is a busted Nextstar 8. A buddy of mine gave me this, it had arrived from the US with a broken corrector plate. I replaced the corrector plate with a piece of plain glass and the result is as expected, a distorted image. It might make a good project for someone who is more savy than myself. The mirror is OK but not the greatest, comes with focuser, secondary and 2" visual back and of course the piece of glass up front.

I'd ask that bids be in increments of $5 with a starting price of $25.

We have 1 bid of $50

I think I'll keep the bidders identity anonymous for now

Regards

Lars

Looks like a good opportunity for anyone who wants to learn how to strip and re-assemble a sct.

Hi lars,

Just out of curiosity, what do you think it would cost to get it fixed up with a new corrector plate?

Ballpark ?

Thanks paul

As far as I am aware, its about $330. But you have to send the tube to the US for it to be done

Cool, if he can fix it up that will be a real bargain and look great on an EQ mount. :)

I would have bid but i have too much stuff lying around.

Hey Lars, why dont you put the ST 4000 XCM up next :P

Now there's an idea, why dont I ?

Seriously, the ST4000XCM seems as far away as in October. I might have to go back to a ST2000XCM which would be no great penalty

Yay!!
Thanks so much Lars, that was very generous of you. Funds and address sent.
Not sure what I'll do with it yet. My first thought was to bore a hole in an 8 inch mirror I'm currently grinding, and making it into a classic Cassegrain. Will need to evaluate it when it arrives.

Cheers, and THANKS
Jason.

I have heard that this type of scope (without corrector) can be used with appropriate imaging equipment to measure methane emissions in livestock...:D

Maybe not what you had in mind but an important use none the less in these "carbon" sensititve times that we live in...
