For owners of Canon Compact Cameras.
There's a Firmware Update called CHDK that you load onto your SD Card that will add the following features to your camera.
Shooting in .raw
Ability to turn off automatic dark frame subtraction
LONG EXPOSURES:eyepop:Up to 65 seconds, instead of the standard 15 seconds.
Battery indicator
Live histograms
Text reader
Games
and more.
And totally for FREE!
To check to see if your camera is supported and to download the firmware update go to...

I upgraded my Canon S3IS with this firmware update. It doesn't alter any of the original settings within the camera. The update is kept on the SD card only, if you don't want to use the features just don't activate the update when you turn the camera on. If you lock the SD card, then the camera boots up every time with the changes in place.
I've uploaded a few e-books to the SD card to read and if they could just change the White Light Torch function to a Red light torch that would make it just about perfect.
