Hi,

Here are a couple of photos of some dragon fly’s (I think?); there were some types with a reddish head, and others with more of a blue colour flitting around a shallow lake. I managed to grab a couple of photos whilst they temporarily alighted on this stick for a breather. The subjects were approximately 2 metres away. These are crops of ¼ to 1/6 of the full frame.

Canon 40D, EF70-200mm F4L IS USM lens set to 200mm, hand held.
ISO 400, 1/320 sec at f5.6 and 1/500 sec at f6.3.

Cheers

Thanks Leon. Photography has become more of a relaxed pleasure now that I have equipment that produces better results. Now if only I could afford the Canon 400mm f/2.8L IS USM Super Telephoto Lens!:whistle:

Cheers

nice ones dennis :) you have got alot of detail there!
i dont know what programs you use but PSP has jpeg artifact removal that would make those look alot smoother. the background is rather noisy.

Hi John

Thanks, the new Canon has sure made grabbing these shots a whole lot easier than my cherished Pentax *ist DS.

I'm still feeling my way around Photoshop (CS3) - I'm sure there are tools in there that will smoothen the background. I have noticed that these "monotone" backgrounds tend to have the noise “amplified” when even a small amount of sharpening is done.

Cheers
