...well the local paper actually!!

Hello all,
My wife persuaded me to send a recent M42 pic to the local paper (Adelaide Hills Courier) for inclusion in their readers photos section.
They got back to me the next day saying they loved the pic and wanted to do a piece on backyard astronomy! Would I be interested!?
A hurried telephone interview followed, then a quick photoshoot at the scope, and the attached pdf file is a scan of the page that went to press on Wednesday.
I even got in a plug for IIS!!
Hope my ugly mug doesn't turn the kiddies off astronomy!!!
All the best
Doug:thumbsup:

Thanks Chris - we just didn't have the time to get into my existential angst, so "spiritual side" had to suffice:lol:
What's the "club"? I'm reminded of the Groucho Marx quip - "any club that'll have me as a member..." etc:P
Cheers

Well done Doug!
Nice article! I didnt know you was a cytothingamybob!!! Congratulations!!
The newspapers in my town are more interested in horse races than astronomy, i wanted to alert the public about P1 McNaught and they took my article and it didnt make it.....their excuse was that they filled their paper with the results from the local races.....glad to see that some papers are willing to publish an article like yours!!!
Cheers!

That's a shame - Comet McNaught seemed to capture the community's imagination, lots of people talking about it in my cytothingamybob lab;)
Isn't a beautiful, dramatic celestial event news anymore!?
All the best
Doug:thumbsup:

Actually I had that same experience when McNaught was around the local rag didn't want to know about it, and also filled the papers with the usual rubbish.

Congratulation.
It's a terrific article! Really well written. And not one question about aliens and spaceships either.
I didn't realize you were a Scot, you don't have any accent at all when you post in the threads.

Apparently not, from what people told me the disappointment of Halleys Comet cast them into permanent occultation!
You'd think after 21 years they'd have got over it.....too many thoughts about fizzling comets are outdated, now that we have internet and lots of amateurs involving themselves to every celestial phenomenon going around!

Good to see astronomy bite back!
After all it IS the OLDEST science!

Cheers!

Good article and very nice image Doug

I got asked once to do a filmed interview for the ABC at our observatory in Bunbury, but when I asked if his camera did subtitles and he said no. I passed it to another member. ( I'm a Scot too JJJ) :)

Forgive and forget eh? Poor old Comets!
The journalist (Genevieve Marston) did a good job I reckon from the brief phone interview we did, and seemed interested in the subject.

You don't need subtitled with your genteel East coast accent Bill!;)

Goon on ya Doug, that all came across very well and yes I guess the journo herself did a good job to put it all together that way.

Double thumbs up there!
