Well i'm quite sure there's a small meteorite shower happening at the moment.
They seem to be starting close to the zenith and shooting across the West about 60 degrees above the horizon as a guess, heading northish. Maybe starting more west 60 degrees high.
No way near fireballs but very consistent and as a guess close (don't know how i've made that conclusion but have).
Anyone else onto this?? Seen 5-6 in the past 45-60mins.

Hi Trav, don't get too excited about it being a shower. 5 - 6 over a 45 - 60 minute period sounds less than even normal sporadics.
I've never heard of a meteor shower starting close to the zenith and shooting across the West heading northish. That would be in contradiction to the rotation of Earth for a shower, but can be fulfilled by sporadics
But be excited that you are spotting them anyway. Even sporadics are fun to watch :)

Hey Ken,
Well I can't say i'm disappointed this is by far the best night thus far through the scope. Incredible views of the Tarantula tonight and just spotted Orion, both 1st time experiences and just awesome!
tempting to axe work in the morning to get a peep of Mars

Thanks for the link Karl - great stuff.
Eric I was so tempted but big day at work being the end of month, so Mars remains elusive, in this house at least :)
Shocking view to the North/East from here, Orion only just in view after midnight, even then had to risk limb and telescope
