G'day,
I have been finding my way around with a nice pair of mounted binos and a 75mm refractor on an EQ mount. I have read the miaplacidus papers several times and countless mags etc etc. Am severely tempted by the 80mm orion ED as reviewed by Chriss toohey in the 2004 S&S,"the 80mm is up there with the best" Thus encouraged, I go to the web site and there is the bigger and better? 0rion 100mm, almost within reach!
> Is the 100mmin the same class as the 80mm?
> can such an ota be alt/az mounted with a computer drive doing the hopping?
> Observing time here is usually measured in minutes so I am trying to avoid a long set up time. Would a pier mount be a help?

if its the same as most of the ed80s they are apo (very little colour) the 100mm is a much larger/slower f ratio as far as i know still apo, yes to the mount question but why hop when goto is available and if your going to buy a mount id buy an aquatorial as you can possibly take pics at some stage, peir mount if permanent in an appropriately weatherproof situation is fine as no realigning but if moving in and out not much difference.

hope this helps

I generally don't delete posts/threads when questions have been answered.

It's extremely likely that many others had the same questions and have the same questions, and can find answers by reading threads like this.

It builds up the knowledge base in the forum history that can be accessed by simply using the search button!
