Eric Idle was on morning TV - saw him while I was in the gym.

He said the Pythons were getting old now, in fact John Cleese uses a "silly walker".

I gather he has said this for a while, but the first time I have heard it - funny!

I saw an interview with John Cleese when he was in Australia doing a one man show a while back.

He was saying that he had hip replacement surgery done and his doctor had written in his list of restrictions, No Silly Walks.

If you can find it "A Liars Autobiography" by Graham Chapman who played King Arthur in the Holy Grail is a great read as well.

A genius bunch of clowns the like of which we'll not see again. I remember taking peeks at the MP Flying Circus show at far too early an age!

...classic stuff.

Eric Idle was on Radio this morning (can't remember the station but it was an ABC one) - he was very funny but I detected a definite American twang during his coversation - that just sounds weird.

"He's not the Messiah - he's a very naughty boy..."

On a different note - while trying to track down the program he was on I came across this on the Radio Australia site:

StarStuff
NewsRadio's astronomy, space sciences and cosmology program, has the latest discoveries across the universe and space science news from around the world. Hosted by Stuart Gary, StarStuff is available on demand or on the air on Sunday at 12:06pm Eastern Time.

Anyone listened to it ?

Cheers,

Steve

I will never in my teens during the late 70's, watching MP Flying Circus late one night when everyone else was in bed. An add break was followed by JC doing the silly walk. I laughed so loud for so long I woke everyone up!
The only thing that ever came close to it was Basil Faulty goose-stepping during the Germans episode of Fawlty Towers:rofl:

Eric Idle was definately an under-rated Python: Say No More:D

"Say no more...She's from Purley...PURLEY?...say no more !"

I lived in Purley for a while...nice place, but the only place I ever had my car broken into. "But still.......phwoooaaaarrr eh !"

yes sometimes when I'm travelling between students I catch a bit, it is interesting but not necessarily something I would record to listen to later. It may be available as a podcast? I'm not too sure, but they do seem to have other stuff , trivial etc so possibly it would be worth checking the abc site?

Attempting to Cross the Bridge of Death.

Bridgekeeper: What is your name?
Arthur: I'm Arthur, the King of the Britons
Bridgekeeper: What is you quest?
Arthur : To seek the Holy Grail!
Bridgekeeper : What is the air speed velocity of an conlader swallow?
Arthur : What do you mean? An African or a European swallow?
Bridgekeeper : Err.. I don't know that.... aaaaaagh!
Bedeuvere; How do you know so much about swallows?
Arthur : Well you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

Q: Why do you think she is a witch?
A: She turned ME into a newt?
Q: A newt?
A: I got better!

Silly French person:

"Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

Brilliant!

One of my favourite bits in the Holy Grail, is to destroy the vicious
Killer Rabbit with the "Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch", who words
I do know off by heart.

A Monk reading from the Holy "Book of Armaments"
(Armaments Chapter 2, Verse 9 to 21 ) says;

"...And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying,
"O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest
blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy." And the Lord
did grin and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths
and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals,
and fruit bats and large chu... [At this point, the friar is
urged by Brother Maynard to "skip a bit, brother"]... And the
Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin,
then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three
shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the
counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither
count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.
Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third
number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand
Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in
my sight, shall snuff it."

Amen.

I particularly like The Four Yorkshire Men (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe1a1wHxTyo), as it reminds me of my childhood, growing up in the N of England!

The 4 Yorkshiremen is the best sketch of all time:thumbsup:, but there are different versions. the best version I once heard on the radio and managed to tape most of when I realised what it was. John Cleese delivers the impossibly absurd line (second last.) The comic timing of this radio version is a gem. Unfortunately I am too dumb to get this onto the net :P(plus missed the first 20 seconds.) Please excuse me as i go out and find my old cassette and cassette player to play the skit over and over , laugh my head off and annoy the crap out of the kids doing so:rofl:
