Hi guys,

I was browsing the Celestron site the other day and noticed they have branded parkers, top, T Shirts, and tried to order a polar fleece top for Christmas.

Unfortunately, it has a drop down to select your country which says "if your country is not in the list, we cannot ship to you". So I select the list and it has one country, the US! Makes the statement a little redundant doesn't it!

I had a look on a number of US seller sites but couldn't find if they sell this stuff. I also rang York, but they said they had tried to stock some of it but had not got a response from the importer.

Does anyone have any Celestron apparel or know where to get it. I thought it would look good at a public viewing to wear a Celestron top...how nerdy would that be!

Almost as nerdy as wearing IceInSpace apparel... to work! :)

Yeah.

The fleece jacket and hooded sweatshirt look quite nice.

Hmm. Might have to write to Celestron and see if they'll ship to Oz.

O-O-O, will let you know if I get a response:)

Hi,

I'd wear an iceinspace shirt!!:) . Good way for people to support the website as well (advertisement of the site and the money from purchasing the shirt.)

got to agree with Daniel, I would also wear it to work.... for me it would be a reinforcer of astronomy for students.

I sent a number of emails to several distributors in the states yesterday asking if they sell them, so I don't expect to find out anything till Monday/Tuesday. I can't find any links on their sites or any hits from searches, but I guess they will be a bit obscure. Hopefully someone can ship to me.

I'll have some generic IIS t-shirts for sale in the near future.. I've had them sitting downstairs for most of this year but haven't got around to listing them.. with IISAC2007 shirts, Comet shirts, beanies, astro2008 books etc.

Soon!

Leaving IIS aside I can not for the life of me understand the attraction of wearing adds... and paying for the privledge... is it a desire to belong to a group or something... anyways good luck with getting the gear you seek.

I went to a dinner party once where the hostess was so proud of her crystal because the labels were still there for all to see... it was a good brand but I knew of better ... was it a case of .."see what I can afford" or "look I have good taste"...I dont know but that is so strange.

If you put poor scotch in a good brand bottle most will say that it is good scotch I have found... branding is such a strange thing but its a funny way to tell the world who you are I feel... but admit wearing adds says something about the person wearing branded gear.... I am just not sure what it says.

I just want to understand things I did when I was younger:lol::lol::lol:

When racing motor bikes (mx) I used to have Husquavana painted on the back of my car would you believe... in fact it was the same car I drove to that dinner party:lol::lol::lol: I guess I felt proud to be a Husky owner:shrug:

I guess you've pretty much answered your own question, Alex:)

To some extent we are all tribal creatures and some of us like to display the club's 'colours'. It's just about saying which tribe we belong to. You know, the whole Ford Vs Holden 'thing'.

I'm also sure it's some form of loyalty thing...as misplaced as that may be.

Well....im a bit more of a Toyota fan myself.....but i do like to belong to a crowd, who doesn't!?

It's a shame there isn't more appealing merchandise around for the astro community!
Who knows, at the next IISAC there might be a Meade vs Celestron fund raising cricket match!! lol (during daylight hrs of course)

Cheers!

I think I have lived alone maybe for a little too long:whistle: ...

Still you notice that finally I could recognise in myself what I questioned in others... I enjoy that quality when I can bring it to the front;).

I have noticed when someone points out what they consider a fault in your makeup that it is a fault they often see in them selves... I think books have been written on this sort of thing... at least being alone does give you time to think a little longer I guess.
Maybe I am disappopinted because no matter what I wear no one will see it:sadeyes:

Very valid point! If the tops had "Celestron" blazened in letters 100mm high I would not be interested and would consider something like this a bit tacky, as in your dinner party quote. Most of the times my tops would be worn at a viewing where my C11 would be on plain view, however, being more subtle (maybe 10 to 20 mm high) they could be worn on a more casual basis without screaming "wanker" to the world. I don't wear any clothing with obvious branding on them, which seems to be more common with the younger generation who seem to have a need to display their "affluence", or is that "effluance" (sorry K&K for stealing your yumour!).

I have a couple of leads on the tops which I will follow up and let you know the outcome, if indeed there is one!
