View Full Version here: : Tarantula in Ha
My first light through the Ha filter (apart from holding it up to my eye and watching city lights disappear! :D)..... This one is through the DSI Pro II and Skywatcher 100mm f/5 scope, with 13nm Astronomik H-alpha filter, 10x3minute exposures, guided with PHD and DMK/ED80. Outback cooler running a CCD temp at 17.5deg C.
The core has been stretched less than the outer regions - the same image is layered on itself in Photoshop CS2.
I need some more narrowband filters now!

That's a really nice image Lee, you have achieved good focus and brought out a lot of fine detail especially in the outer areas.
The quality of your DSI images are improving at a great rate.
Well done.

Lee, that is nice work mate.
You have captured the faint outer regions in the lower left and centre right, and have balanced it nicely to have no burnout in the core!!! Well done
Thanks Barb and David.... I feel like I'm cooking with gas now! :D
Thanks Ken - I just duplicated the background in photoshop, then adjusted the bottom layer to show core detail - then stretched the top layer to show the outer regions, which of course burnt out the core badly - then just layer mask out the burnt core from the top layer to show the nice one underneath.... So the detail is all present in the original 16 bit data - I didn't need any shorter exposures to get the core detail.

Excellent result! That h-a filter is working great!
Very nice Lee, lots of great fine detail.
What bandwidth is your filter?
I have the 13nm Astronomik and reckon it's a beauty
Cheers
13nm Ric - same as yours, I think it is pretty cool too.... Wish it would cut through clouds too!
That will be the next step in technology for filters Lee. ;)
When, is anybodys guess. :D
