Comet 17PHolmes with 6 inch SN

Tonight raced against thickening high cloud to try out the 6 inch f3.6 Schmidt Newtonian on Comet Holmes. Ironically the scope is called a "Cometracker"
4x4 mins ISO200. UV/UR filter, MPCC Coma Corrector.
Hand guided. Comet barely visible in 8x56 Binocs. Large and very diffuse. The near point source central condensation around the nucleus is quite visible though. Lots of stars shining through the coma.

Lovely image Scott. I tried to get it last night from Long Jetty, but turned out it was a terrible spot. Hazy cloud low on the horizon. I need altitude.

The weather here was looking terrible too, with Orion hazy with high cloud. Thankfully the cloud didnt seem to be as thick where the comet is but there is a bit of a halo round the bright star, and it was getting worse with each image I took. I would loved to have gone deeper but was no point in continuing with the thickening cloud. The comet was much harder to spot visually this time.

Id like to thank Houghy too, for the loan of his self made light box for taking flats, making the taking of flats very easy and fast.

Nice Scott! the high cloud hasn`t affected the image much at all and the seeing looks like it was pretty good low down. :thumbsup:
Could barely see it last night by eye..much fainter now.

Nice shot Scott. I was looking at it with my 12" when you took that, and the view was similar. I didn't see as many stars though.

Visually I could see few stars as well, and the comet was just a hazy blob, amazing how stacking some images can bring out the detail.
