Does anyone know anyone in Aus that sells the RJ-12 6p/6c double adapters ( all female socket one) and leads? so I can use my hand controller and my shoestring USB adapter together?
Silly me didn`t get one when I bought the shoestring products thinking that I could just go to the local Dicksmith or Jaycar dealer but no go. We used to have them where I worked years ago but know one seems to sell them here anymore!
Help!!!!:help:
thanks for any help
cheers Gary

Not in Australia (certainly not on the sunshine coast, tried for days to get one) but Shoestring astronomy has them in the US.

I got one recently from Jaycar, although the guy did say they were becoming rare. Problem was that the pin connections were different to the Shoestring one. You can have Pin 1 to Pin 1, Pin2 to Pin 2, .... or you can have Pin 1 to Pin 6, Pin 2 to Pin 5, .....
Things don"t work with the wrong wiring, so I then got one from Shoestring. About a week and a bit for delivery and about $15 all up. Saves the hassle.

Yeah – just be careful chaps. My Shoestring GPUSB RJ12 to RJ12 cable is what “appears” to be a “crossed over” cable. That is, even thought the conductors go White-White, Red-Red, Blue-Blue, etc, the plugs are wired so that when the cable is lying flat and not twisted, one RJ12 plug has the tab facing up whereas the RJ12 plug on the other end has the tab facing down.

Also, the small plastic RJ12 Female to RJ12 Female “straight through” adapter provided by Shoestring for my GPUSB for the Tak EM200 mount is in fact crossed over too.

Cheers

Thanks guys for that info!!
I would have thinked that all the cables and adapters would be straight through and not crossed over? unless you wanted a crossover cable?
When I very first made up cables I used to make them crossed over as that was how I was shown...but later realized that this caused too many problems so started making them all straight through.

Thanks for that link John, I shall give Steve a ring and get one quickly!

All I need now is a small extension cable about 20cm long now as I don`t think there is enough room to plug it into the control box without snagging the power supply plug?
cheers Guys and thanks

Here are my notes from when I was doing the research to build a CFW8A to Tak EM200 cable. Initially, it looked like the GPUSB cable would work but when I pinged the wires and the GPUSB RJ12 pass through connector, I discovered that they would not be compatible so I had to build my own cable assembly.

PS – the above is not authorative advice, nor can I guarantee its correctness. The data worked for me in my set up.

If you can only get the rj45 8 pin type that will also work as the keyway will align it to the right pins.

I bought a couple of RJ12-RJ12 straight through cables for my Shoestring box from www.joinerscabling.com.au (http://www.joinerscabling.com.au/) - work well - they are a fairly specialised mob, may have what you are after???

Have a look at this page - http://www.joinerscabling.com.au/html/adaptors1.html
