Looking forward to seeing what people can come up with this month.
It's certainly an interesting topic and can yield a wide variety of imaginative interpretations.

Hi,

Tnbk00, I tried to take a picture like that of the helicopters flying over Arlington National Cemetry when I was in the US last year, but they kept on moving everytime I lined up the shot...I think they meant it!!:P

I'm thinking, why has firstlight marked his image with a red circle - is the object of interest in this part of the photo? Then I opened it! That's a neat shot!

Crikey, what a wonderful set of entries to date. I'm really going to have to find my thinking cap - though I suspect that it is still boxed up somewhere or other after my move of residence some 10 years ago.

Thanks, I got a series of shots with that throw... it was a toss-up with the entry and this one, which is another throw entirely. About a 50% crop of the original.

Cool view, eh? We're going back there in May... going to be a difficult proposition but if it is clear I might drag myself out for the eta-Aquarids.

Great shot Dennis, a wonderful capture.

"Evoking the emotion of motion" - Love the caption too !

Thanks RB. This was 1st light for my early Xmas present and I haven’t quite learned how to drive the Canon yet – it truly is a wonderful beast! I also subsequently discovered that there is a “follow focus” mode where the auto focus continues to track the moving target when the shutter release is half pressed. I only had it on single shot mode so the seagull moved!

Cheers

Thanks Dennis, Eric...

We are drooling about your new toy Dennis. This is the camera we would like to get. Tempted to get a modded one from Hutec (sp?)... one purchase that will have to wait

Hi Tony

The Canon camera is certainly a step up from the Pentax, but equipment certainly doesn’t maketh the man! In my ignorance, I depressed the shutter release ½ way and focused on some ripples in the water below where I anticipated the seagull would fly. This "locks" the focus point. I then tried to predict the flight path of the bird and fully depress the shutter release at the point where I anticipated the seagull would be. Only this single shot worked, just – the other 30 or so were duds, but that is the beauty of digital.

I have since discovered that I could have set the lens to a follow focus mode, where it would have continued to attempt to focus on the moving bird right up to the point of shutter release. There’s still some of the old 35mm manual film camera stuff cluttering up my brain!:doh:

Cheers

Yeah - I noticed it the other morning driving back from Magellan. I'd never seen the little artificial lake adjacent to the sandpit. Nice soft landings... but take a towel!

"velocità dell'automobile"- Omaroo

i like the way the body of the car looks still but the wheels are in motion.

what camera settings did you use for the shot?

cheers,

Hi DJDD, and thanks :)

Details:

Nikon D40
Nikkor 55mm@f/8
1/250th sec
ISO-200

I took nearly 900 shots that day - and a good job I did. Panning with these guys at the exit of pit lane was devils work. :doh:Getting just a handful of decent pictures took all day.

Good result though - and everything of interest in the frame falls nicely on a pythagorean third, giving it good balance I think.

Cheers
Chris

Some great entries so far guys!

I've just got back from Canada this morning and I've done one run through the 1760 photos taken... short listed 4 and then picked this one. It's not perfect, but then if I had a perfect shot I'd put it in and the decision wouldn't have been so hard!;):P Off to Grafton the day after tomorrow so not much time for me to be playing around with photos for this month. Just the best I can do in the time available!

Just for those who aren't familiar with Skookumchuck - the water can drop up to 2 metres in a couple of hundred metres through the narrows reaching up to about 30 m/s. The guys wear dry suits (the water is very cold!) and perform stunts like flips, and turns and somersaults on the waves in these short aquabatic kayaks. They reverse into the top stopper from upstream usually, though a few worked the eddies back up and dropped in from the side. Absolutely great to watch! No doubt it it's fun to do - at least it looks like it to me!

Great shot,Al. Certainly evokes "motion", even if after this dunking the only motion left to do is shivering:)

:lol:Thanks Dennis. As cold as the water is, I suspect these dudes don't get that cold... To watch it, it is an extremely active sport. If I lived near somewhere where I could do it, I'd love to have a go at it! It's got to be a fun way to keep fit.

Nice shot DJDD, that should do well in the counting, and a nice lens too. I have one for the EOS, and it gives great results, as you have demonstrated.

i like the lens- it has a nice finish to it.

i must assume you meant "stool" as in chair and are making a play on the topic (i.e. sitting still as negative motion) rather than the other type...
