I would just like to put it on the record that
I AM SICK OF THE CLOUDS!!!
I wouldn't mind if it would rain and make a job of it but the continuing grey is so frustrating.
Thank you all for listening:P

Newcastle is just a patchwork quilt of sucker holes..... good enough to do a bit of drifting, not much else..... Forecast through to Sunday is showers/wind or both! :(

I looked up how much rain I have had here this month so far and it totals a great 7mls:( and with the constant clouds. Make it rain properly to fill my dams and I wouldn't complain.:D

Had a lovely clear day down here and I was getting quite optimistic until around 4pm when the clouds started to roll in. :tasdevil:

Hi Guys

In the 12 months of astronomy I had in the UK prior to migrating to this land of gold and green with warm climes and celestial treasures sparkling aplenty, I think I only managed to get out with my scope less that 10 times in that year.

In the summer it was still evening twilight right up to around 11:00pm with dawn twilight appearing around 3:00am. Winter was just clouds – low, miserable grey clouds with the odd clear night arriving with temps at -12蚓, so in my case, I really don’t think that I can complain – just yet!

Cheers

Dennis

Now that sounds like weather to complain about!!!

Yeap as soon as there something extra special to view you can expect total cloud cover!! and when new gear arrives you might as well stay in bed! I was lucky to get a quick glimpse of comet Holmes through the clouds but has been c*** since..:(

Had an early night so got up at 4am, wow! stars. Got about 1/2hr looking at Orion and Mars, then the the curtains got drawn . Ah well, at least I got to check out the "Rainmaker Mk2" at last. Needed the tube shortening a little bit so my 32mm EP will come to focus with the diagonal, thats done but.... TOTAL CLOUD AGAIN ! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Same grey clouds up here too, though it is finally raining at least. It looks as though I might be able to get out next week, and if it's still cloudy well, I'll go fishing.

Hey Terry!
Well...i feel your pain!

You now know why they call it the "NEW ENGLAND" up here!!!!!!!!

Whenever we get a large amount of cloud, with or without rain, from a passing low, the clouds tend to move from WEST to EAST....then we get the dreggs, like a backwash, of cloud....moving LOW and fast from the EAST to WEST.....when this happens it brings light..misty...crappy...nuisance rain with it!

bit windy here too. Just got home from work and thought about taking the 10" mortar launcher out but the wind is a worry. And if its windy, the seeing will be shiessemahausen aswell.

scattered storms around the place now! However these will likely clear during the evening and be confined to the ranges.
check the Melb radar: http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR023.shtml
Melbourne Airport copped a direct hit and numerous reports of lightning and thunder from the western suburbs.

Storms forecasted in the Melbourne area on Sat and Sunday nights aswel - just when I am off work and can actually observe. Doh!

Hi all,
You could take heart in that "EVERY" state on the east coast that has cloud sends it across the ditch.:P
Doesn't matter if it is Qld, Nsw or Sa.
Still, hopefully summer is better.
Clear Sky's soon to all

...tell me about it...I left work early on Monday to take advantage of the ridiculously good pricing Andrews have on their GSO dobs at the moment - 8" for $299 ! :O - Can't buy myself a chance to use it but... :(

My first telescope as well...

Hi all - my first post too...

got home from work yesterday at 9pm and thought about going outside but was a bit tired. Turns out it was a good decision as it fogged over by midnight!

Assumed I wasn't going to get out so when the clear weather in Sydney arrived last night it caught me by surprise. I hurriedly finished the build of the scope and rushing outside with it before it had time to acclimatise to outside just managed to catch Jupiter and 1 moon before it disappeared into the neighbours tree - not a bad view considering.

Had a squizz at Mars as well later on but my eyepieces had well and truly fogged up by then. Had a look at Orion Nedula too.

Tried to find Uranus but no luck. Came to the conclusion I will be unable to view Andromeda from anywhere in my backyard due to trees in that direction...shame.

In short, a hurried peek before I had got my spot in the garage sorted out to house the scope but a good teaser of the possibilities.

Still getting my setup tuned - Dob drooped a bit looking toward the horizon - some sort of viagra for Dobsonians required ? ;)

Laptop running Stellarium by my side and using my mobile phone as a light source ! What is the easy way to navigate to an expected position of e.g. a planet - is it just a case of star hopping then a bit of measurement e.g. finger spans etc ?

Hope others got a look in.

Towards the North I've actually got a good clear view but towards the city it's just such a marked difference in the seeing.

Cheers,

Steve

well it's clear here and finally I am actually able to stay up!

Scope is cooling right now, the predicted "morning cloud" isn't lurking on the southern horizon yet so looks good.

gotta love Melbourne's weather - clouds over just after sundown, complete with drizzle and freezing cold July temps :mad2:

Ofcourse, Saturday's forecast has gone from 30慢 and sunny to 23慢 with showers. WHAT A SURPRISE :mad2::mad2::mad2:

let's hope the next update of the forecast brings positive news FOR ONCE.

anyone else in Melbourne sick to death of this ridiculous freezing cold drizzly overcast evenings, nights, mornings and early afternoons lately?

11:30am in mid November and only 15慢 :mad2: even Hobart has 21慢.
