hey guys, what's the actual focal length (1.6 crop factor included) for an ed80 attached to a canon 400d?

The focal length is still 600mm, but the actual FOV is reduced due to the crop factor of the Canon.

Someone will be able to tell you the actual FOV in degrees, based on the size of the chip. I don't have the information on me right now.

no worries, 600mm was what i was looking for....my next question would be, does it perform anygood for terrestrial viewing?

yes, the ED80 is a perfect terrestrial scope, when used with a diagonal.

It's also great as a long focal length terrestrial photography scope.. just use it the same as you would at night, just point it at a daytime target :)

oh nice.... the birds at dad's place won't know what hit them!!!!

oh....so 600mm...that would transfer upto an actual focal length of 960mm? because of the crop factor?

edit: nm, re-read your first post...lol!

l took photos of my sons cricket with my Canon 350D with the ED80.
This photo is from approximately 60-70m.

Thats right, just over 900mm. Nice day time camera lens if it's bright enough.

Nice Mick, but if your son is the one with the blue helmet on, he doesn't look real impressed with the appeal
