'astronomers enlist eBay to find three new planets
November 03, 2007 01:30am

BRITISH astronomers have discovered three new worlds orbiting distant stars but had to use online shopper eBay to complete their mission.

They used a 16-lens instrument to find the planets but the mission was almost halted after they discovered they were 13 lenses short.

Astronomer Dr Carole Haswell said although she had never used online shopping, she thought it may help find the lenses, which cost $10,000 each.

"We tracked the lenses to a dealer from South Korea," she said.'
