No It has been cloudy all night, but I just caught a first observation of Comet Holmes through a gap in the clouds, naked eye plus 7x50 Bino's:eyepop: it is bright:),
There is a bit of hope I might get another lookas there are gaps every now and then:thumbsup:

Sorry to say I can't see myself making it Ron as I'll be working nights and sleeping days from the Thursday before to the Monday after.

Good news though is that the chainsaw should be running again this week - long story, involving bad design, crumbling fuel line, etc - I know why the guy at the shop didn't want to work on it now. Soon as it's going again I'll let you know, I still have Mon & Tues off this week and next!

Satellite doesn't look promising:

IR loop:
http://www.jma.go.jp/en/gms/large.html?area=2&element=0&mode=UTC

Water vapour loop:
http://www.jma.go.jp/en/gms/large.html?area=2&element=2&mode=UTC

Visible loop:
http://www.jma.go.jp/en/gms/large.html?area=2&element=1&mode=UTC

(I prefer the JMA page over BOM as it actually has the visible loop and water vapour available)

Still cloudy here.
I really thought this wind would blow the clouds away.
The horizon to the south east is clear so there is still a chance of clearing.

Typical.
We should have gone.
I've set up here, hoping to nab meself a comet this evening.

I wouldn't have been able to stay all night anyway. The boys have a golf comp. first thing in the morning.

Nope, it's clouded over again. I'm not even going to worry about it until after I have had dinner. If it's fine then, then I'll go out.

Yep it was pretty ugly here near the coast as well Ron. Who ended up braving the weather?

Moureene, Terry, and two visitors who are newbies.
I got alook at the comet Holmes through the bino's for about 1 minute before it clouded over and then rained again.
I am hopeing it will clear up for tonight, the scope is still outsize under a cover.
To make things even more miserable , we also had a power failure till 02:25 this morning, it was so dark, but there where lots of cloud so back to bed when it came back on and I had to get up to turn of all the things that where on when the power whent off.

Ron I meant to ask you did Maureen get those mounting bolts for the OTA sorted out? Hopefully that's all been dealt with now and she's having a ball with her brand new dob!

If there's anything else I may be able to help with tell her to give me a holler.
