Hi all again,

I took this image 2 nights ago early in the morning.. the seeing looked great on setup but when viewing at high power I found out it wasn`t ideal more like average..but I wanted to try something different and image with a 2x teleconverter to get up and close to the core of M42 and had a good hour before dawn so I gave it a shot.
Well my poor old teleconverter wasn`t really up to the job with alot of flare/abberations around the edges of the image and the seeing softened the stars quiet a bit but overall I don`t thing its too bad. I would love to try this again with ideal seeing and a good 2x like a canon one!

Image is a combination of images from 15 seconds up to 3 min with a total of nearly a hours exposure..Stacked in DSS then each stack layered in PS with some feathering, brightness and contrast and color balance. Image has been heavily cropped to just the center part!
Well I had some fun anyways!..:)
All comments most welcome!!!....
cheers Gary

Very interesting indeed. Gives some great perspective to the whole region, especially considering Dennis' shot from the other day too!

Great image Gary, you've captured a lot of detail in the trap and the colours are very stunning.

A fine effort.

Thanks Dennis!.. I could imagine how hard the trapezium must have been for you to image in your last post as it is not as easy as one thinks..cheers Gary

Cheers Mike..:)...yeah there are really so many ways one can image this great Neb
cheers

Thanks Alex... didn`t alter the colors much at all just done some levels to get rid of that extra bit of red with this modded camera..

Cheers Ric your comments are always most welcome.!Around the Trap was my goal and to get all that mottled gas clouds at the very heart of M42..I will need better seeing but not a bad go at it..

Thanks Eric the man!!!!..I shall have a few more goes this summer at a closeup when we get good seeing...:)

Thanks Barb and Dave...its a wonderful region of sky!!!

Thanks Ken!! yeah did plenty of exposures at 15sec, 30sec 60 sec and 3 min to try to get all the range and it did come out just about right...
Always still learning this processing stuff..
-----------------------------------------------------------------

I have been experimenting with remapping the color channels as in how narrow band images are used to create a false color RGB images..
Here is one of my attempts at it. Not quiet the same but I think it makes for a different look at the core!!...:) or am I just getting bored since it is cloudy? What do you think?
cheers Gary
