Hi.

In recent weeks I have taken my 300mm Bintel Dob (12" to any more Jurassic metrological colleagues) away a few times, and was impressed (or depressed) by the amount of sheer effort it required to get that amount of aperture out to the dark sky sites near me.

I managed to get the necessary gear into the limo (a widebody Toyota Camry), but it left no room for colleagues, wives, concubines, eskys, golf bags, tents and the 250mm Dob as well.

Accordingly I have looked in Drive.com for a solution and this is my choice (attached). It will fit all required with space to spare, and even allow me to stretch out on the queen sofa with a Jack Daniels and coke33655.

The only difficulty is that it will not go around the roundabouts at Lithgow.

Cheers

You have wives and concubines? The esky is more important!
Be glad it isn't a 12" Equatorial mount with 45 minutes set up time!

Get yourself a trailer Geoff, and you will never look back. I recently acquired a trailer to transport my 20" dob, and it has made the world of difference (except one DOES have to secure all parts of the scope - such as the lid....).

Hi,

A very good suggestion, so I had a look around and found this modern model, and it has a handy looking big floor socket inside which fits the OTA of the Bintel Dob in just neatly. There is a fan in the roof for ambient cooling on the move, and a dispenser on the inside for lens tissues. The only trouble is the door lock is on the wrong side of the door for some reason, on the inside.

Cheers

Nice one, Geoff.

Is that the one I saw advertised some years ago? The one powered by natural gas?
