View Full Version here: : Todays Jupiter graze of the moon late this afternoon
Took this picture with a homemade focal reducer using the lx90 and LPI. All pics stacked with autostarsuite on capture at 70% quality. First pic shows moons limb with jupiter, second pic just jupiter without the focal reducer . Note you can see two satellites and the great red spot in broad daylight!

Hi
Wow - what a fantastic collection of daylight Jupiter/Moon images. It would have been unthinkable to attempt these a few years ago. It's incredible how technology has changed our hobby, and opened up so many different opportunities.
I mostly watched at the eyepiece of my Vixen 4" refractor and plugged my LPI in for a short period, with a TeleVue x2.5 Powermate, when I captured Jupiter just "touching" the Moon.
Well done everyone!
Cheers

I learnt a lot from it. The biggest thing I learnt was to make sure your setting up 2 hours before the event to make sure everything is spot on and equipment is functioning fully. Not 3/4 of an hour and be rushed. BIG lesson to learn :D

Nice thought Paul but very hard to achieve sometimes :D

Well we both learnt from this then Paul, as I had the same headaches, which I won't go into. Your shots, as with all the others, are superb. Well done.
When is the next one??

No missed it my miles! :D would have looked great if it did I left work early to get the beginning and it was worth it. The Circular polar filter I have on the sigma lens was worht it as i filtered out the extra light to reveal Jupiter and a reasonable shot of the detail on the moon. The seeing wasn't all that great even though it was generally clear, it was very turbulent.

Hi everyone,
Looking at all those fantastic images you had all a ball of a time.
Dennis of course had to pick the most dramatic moment when Jupiter was just touching a lunar mountain on the rim, I wouldn't expect anything less :D
I'm in the middle of a removal and my telescope was packed up that day, but I still managed to make a snapshot.
Looks familiar, Dennis?
In case you all wonder, I plucked a C9.25 from the shop (No, not an XLT with carbon fiber tube :ashamed: ) and plugged a Neximager in primary focus.
When I'm settled at my new place I'll process the other 7480 frames.....
A boxed cheers,

Hey Erwin
Wow – what a great image! At the prime focus of a C9.25 – hmm, must get myself one of these. We seem to have synchronised our image capture times! Your image shows Jupiter in the same position as my effort. I may have to look at the Neximager, as I stood on my LPI yestrday and broke it - ouch!
Maybe Mike from Bintel will sell the LPI at a special Qld Astrofest discount?
Cheers

A magnificent animation Paul. Congratulations.
My attempt wit the C-8 was not nearly so good but enough to at least make a record of the event.

Dennis PM me if you would like a vertually brand new LPI used twice, I don't like it. make me an offer. original box, extra long cable and software! I will be there in August, unless you would like it before then?

Late to this thread :D Some fabulous shots and animations here (wow Dennis! :) )
I rushed home from work to get to see it, and used a Canon 300D (lens removed) handheld at prime focus of an Optex 6 inch Newtonian. 4:16pm 16th June 2005, Brisbane.
