Graham I think that there is no need to use Kydex in telescope construction just because it's the thing to do. It buckles with temperature differences. With my last project I used the left over Formica for the mirror cage and you can also use thin aircraft ply which can be stained and varnished.

I'm sure you will find something at Clark rubber. A thin, light, matt black foam rubber will be ideal.

Hi Graham,
I made a dew/light shield for my LB12".
I used a product called H.I.P.S. High Impact Polystyrene Sheet
It comes in a 1.37mX 60cmX 0.75mm.
It is very flexible, strong, light and easy to cut with a pair of sharp scissors.
It has worked very well. Cost? was about $15 a sheet.
I purchased it through a plastics supplier here in Sydney, but I'm sure a similar place in Brisbane should have it.

I found an old camping mat in the garage I'd lost a fair while back...
after buying another type of foam from clark rubber .. I remember buying it
it was not one of these junky $2 ones you see around ..much thicker
10 mm and a very dense foam cost me around $20.. I have just cut 4 slits to slip up the spider vanes and its sitting in there pretty good on its own .
