This is an image of Carina with the new HDR method. It has exposures of 30s, 1,2,4,8,16 min at an ISO of 200.
So with the 12 bits of the A to D converter we potentially have 18 bits of dynamic range. Note you can see colour in Eta Carina yet all the dim nebula are also clearly visible.
I am still getting to grips with whats needed to adjust the image but it is a lot easier than my previous method.

It could perhaps do with a bit more saturation to bring out the star colours? Check it out at full mag.
