This is an image of Carina with the new HDR method. It has exposures of 30s, 1,2,4,8,16 min at an ISO of 200.
So with the 12 bits of the A to D converter we potentially have 18 bits of dynamic range. Note you can see colour in Eta Carina yet all the dim nebula are also clearly visible.

I am still getting to grips with whats needed to adjust the image but it is a lot easier than my previous method.

It could perhaps do with a bit more saturation to bring out the star colours? Check it out at full mag.

That is fantastic Bert!!! Your best yet! In the high res version the star colours look fine, unless I am missing something.

beautiful Bert, a real work of art.

hey as an idea, now don't shoot me down yet, wouldnt it be interesting to lay this over say an image of M42 to see which is bigger and looks better?
