hello all
i was wondering on how tight is tight enough on the primary mirror locking screws?
is finger tight good enough ?
found out the hard way too tight wid a screw driver upsets the collimation :)
thanks

I don't bother with my collimation locking screws, most of the time. Even finger tight can upset collimation.
I just check collimation almost every time I observe and make sure it hasn't moved.

See if you can find some heavier springs to support the mirror cell Vin. 3 screws are enough to play with let alone 6.

I agree, basically I ignore the locking screws (should really take them out) and give the scope a quick check each time I use it. The screws and springs are just fine for my scope but its "only" and 8" so I can't vouch for the effectiveness of this method for the larger ones.
Cheers
i do finger tight for each then a 1/4 turn making sure to do each the same amount... works for me

I do it this way :
Adjust the three larger collimation screws and then very lightly seat the locking screws against the metal plate. If you then gradually tighten each lock screw in turn a little at a time working around in a circle, checking collimation as you go, you'll find that you can get it right and have it stay there.
