Well, after jinxing the wether by buying a new ‘scope I finally got a chance to get out with the new toy (8” LX200R). It was a great night – set up the ‘scope, aligned without too much trouble by about 8pm and took the ‘tour’ offered by the software. As each object was presented I found that it was just outside the FoV of the 26mm eyepiece and always in the same direction. I learn't the names and locations of a few new (to me!) stars and constellations and found some great glusters, galxies and nebuli (sp ?). During the course of the evening, playing with the options in the hand controller, I inadvertently mucked up the alignment so had to do it again. This time, though, when I selected an object it ended up pretty close to the centre of the FoV each time! - So a little more care in getting the alignment stars (which I now know better) centred first up made all the difference. Now I just need to negotiate some more time under the stars with ‘er in doors!

Congratulations, it sounds as if you had a fine time under the stars.

The more you use it and look up with it, the more familiar with things you will become...

Well done with your "first light" and Enjoy this fine hobby!

might want to get a eyepiece with an illuminated cross hair in it, to center the alignment stars reliably.

I use the 12mm eyepiece with the illuminated cross hairs and find that it centres me perfectly when I change back to the 26mm or 18mm and I only need a minor adjustment when I attach the DSI as well.

Glad to see you are enjoying your new scope, you will find it a fine instrument which will give you many years of enjoyment.

Cheers
