Greetings everybody!
I found Snake Valley Astron Soc on a US site, (probably should be removed), & thence contacted Ken James, & hence here. I'm studying astronomy online @ JCU, Qld. Have a 12"GS dob as biggest piece of glass for my bucks, but now wish to add guidance, as often dob-users do. Will be seeking advice on the equipment stream soon!
BTW, the known physiological universe MAY be getting younger, but am I really the only one who fondly remembers Snake Gully, on steam-driven radio's Dad'nDave??? http://www.iceinspace.com.au/index.php?home Probly somewhere near Gundagai?

Stone the crows 'n starve the lizards, Denmark surely is beautiful, but with frequently grey skies ... but we love it. Bryan Read's round table platforms look interesting ... will consider in context later. :thumbsup:

I just have to make another note here, 'specially after the potted history of Dad'nDave from BallaratDragons, gorblimey. :rolleyes: Thanks, Ken! Never knew Gordon Chater, Noel Ferrier, & Gary McDonald(with all that early face hair) had played their parts; but then for me the radio show had more to offer than the films ... bit like the goon show, which also profited by using the audience's subjective imaginations to accompany the marvelous & beloved radio sounds & voices, whereas the director/producer-chosen images were often too amorphous.
Enough ... back to astronomy ... thanks to ALL for your welcome ... it's good to be here!! :thumbsup:

Welcome to IIS Neil, I remember those radio shows well, in the days before TV, Radio was all we had, one of my earliest memories as a child was sitting by the fire with the family listening to the radio on the mantle. Denmark look like a nice spot, do you get any fish in the lake??

Thanks, Phil ... yes Denmark is pretty, almost as much as the Huon Valley when I was there in the 50s with rowing crews ... but in spite of being nearly as Southerly as you are, with frequently grey skies, our water supply is down, http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif , & to boot, the inlet, a sometime place for fishermen, will be opened to the sea next Monday, so its level will drop a bit too.
