View Full Version here: : Moon shot with Canon 40D
This is one of my first shots with the new 40D. Live view worked extremely well in this case...

Wow Toc! You've done very well.
The detail is fantastic. Pity about the 'double-exposure' look right at the bottom of the Moon though.
The camera really does a nice Job.
Oh, so did you too
Live view is amazing isn't it, great work toc.

Excellent image toc - razor sharp especially the regions around Theophilus, Cyrillus & Catharina.

Good one toc. Now - the camera is only one part of the equation. It did OK, but what what the rest of the setup you used here? Timings? Field reducer?
Cheers

wow, that bodes well for the 40D, whats your impression so far, the far side looks a little out of focus?. Have you tried long exposures yet? (what was the exposure time for this). Is the live focus of real value (it seems thats how you focused for this shot)?. Your 1st on the cutting edge, so many questions ;-).
I used a C8, at prime focus, and the exposure was 1/8 th of a second, at ISO 200. The C8 is on an old beatup EQ5 :-)
Yeah, I always get that focus problem with my C8 at prime focus. Its some sort of aberration, but Im not sure which one :) (probably spherical)
The exposure time for this was long - 1/8th of second, which is a lot longer than I normally do - I did a whole range of images at various ISO's, and the lower ISO images held up better than the higher ones, despite the shutter speed. I was very lucky that the conditions where so calm.
WRT the live view - It really the 'bees knees' for this sort of shooting. If you hook the 40D up to a lappy, then its even better, because you can look at the live feed via a USB cable. Great stuff.
