Imaging the ISS with Canon 350D

Hello there. the weekend the Iss flew over home a few times I tracked it with my guide scope and shot it prime focus and later with eyepeice projection.They are not very good shots but its a start.Tony I used CS3 to crop and enlarge them .

What scope were you using to track it? The dob?

I used a Chineese 6 inch refractor on EQ5 mount.The drives were left unlocked so I could swing the the scope manually by hand.I had a Japaneese Finder scope that gives right side up image.It has an illuminated croosss hair with a small circle in the middle.The whole thing is mounted on steel pier.Tony

What kind of exposure times were you using?

Nice try! With faster exposures (or a steadier hand) you may have got something better.

How did you press the shutter while trying to move the scope?

Looks pretty good to me. This is one target I would love to image but as yet still have not created the opportunity. It is moving so fast that hand guiding or fast guiding is the only way to image it. Congrats on giving this a go.

This shots show the gear i USED TO SHOOT THE ISS .I used slow shutter speeds that is a problem causing blurring e.g 1/40 of a second.I got ahead of the ISS in the finder scope than when it passed through the small finder circle I fired with a Canon remote shutter release. Tony

good effort tony. i think you must have a lot of patience. i used to have a scope like yours and as with yours it was very top heavy leading to the eyepiece end overhanging too much. i solved the prob by inserting a large cylinderical steel weight inside the tube just in front of the focusser . worked a treat and brought the focusser further forward.

Good try. Kick the ISO up or do manual and remove the trailing. :thumbsup:
