Just doing a bit of experimenting last night to see how much of the frame the moon took up in the ED80 while using the 350D.
At prime focus, it's fairly small. I need to get a 2x 2" barlow.
The first image is a simple resize to 800px and save for web, so you can see how much of the frame it takes up.
The second image is a 50% crop and then resize to 800px.
I adjusted the saturation/hue's a bit to give it a little bit of colour. Also sharpened for web.
Exposure was 1/100s.
Thanks.

Hehe.. it's a challenge, 'ain't it Mike? You're right - to get better detail with a DSLR (as opposed to your planetary CCD) I've gone with a high-quality 2" 2x barlow to give full-frame apects. On an 80mm f/6 (or thereabouts) the Moon will take up around 85% of the vertical frame height with this arrangement. Single-shot images are a bugger when it comes to the Moon I've always found. Seeing is the biggest problem, and you just have to wait, patiently, for the best conditions you can. When you're not stacking it's a lot more, uhmm... difficult.... :)

Get this to test various reducer/barlow/chip combos (including big chip DSLRs as well as the standard astro cams).
You can put in custom equipment if you know the pixel size in microns and resolution.

This version has no restrictions (like the previous version did).

Excellent, thanks Turbo!
Very nice subtle colour shades in there Mike !
I like it.
Did you use mirror lockup?
Make sure you leave lockup on for at least 3 sec for any vibration to cease before taking the actual exposure.
