My first DSO. 47 Tucanae. You might see a lot of globs from me (kind of a glob nut). This is my very first astro image taken with my Canon 40D. It's also my very first deep sky shot, so please be gentle. Scope wasn't perfectly collimated and /or the FR has some issues. Not quite 100% focused maybe...

8" SCT @ f/6.3. Canon 40D. ISO400, 1 x 20sec. Dark frame subracted. Tone curve adjustment in Canon DPP.

Thanks for looking,
Mark

That is very good for a 1st effort, Mark! :)

Rather than take one image, takes several and stack them in Registax. You'll be suprised at the detail stacking brings out

That is a pretty good first up attempt.
You may like to try and take a few more images and stack them. I have been using Deep Sky Stacker. It is pretty easy to use and seems to work for me.

For a first effort you have done well, and as with what the other guys said take a few more and stack em, and you will be surprised at the detail that will come out.

Other than that well done.

I actually did use Deep Sky Tracker to stack some. As you can see there are some registration errors. However, since I took these shots in Alt-Az mode, I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out.

Lovely first DSO Mark, you've captured a lot of detail right into the core which is always the tricky bit in my books.

Looking forward to more of your Globs.

Cheers

Reprocessed with DeepSkyStacker. I was a bit more savage with the rejection rate. This is a stack of 3 images plus dark subtraction. Some chrominance noise reduction plus tone curve adjustment.

Nice Mark, boy that 40d brings out the stars nicely! focus looks pretty good too.
You will have to get yourself a wedge!
cheers

I've got a wedge - the Meade standard horror. It's an older model, so I need to add a real latitude adjuster and do a little beefing up.
