Mercury has popped into our western sunset sky, and was last night positioned just above a moon sliver.

Beautiful Liz, thanks. I saw the sliver last night and the bright spot above it and wondered whether it was Mercury or Spica. I didn't get the chance today to check my software, so now I know.

I saw it last night as well. Your image captures the scene beautifully.

I seem to recall reading it will be within 6' of Spica on the 18th which is in only a few nights. Your image has got me keen to check this.

Thank you all. Last night was also very pretty with Moon just below Spica, and Mercury shining brightly below.

Another beautiful image. I love watching the cresent Moon in the sunset.

It seems the closest approach of Mercury to Spica is on the 22nd with a separation of about 7' at 6:30pm. It's such a shame the Moon won't be around to make a great photograph.
