Probably,a wasted effort,or another shrug.

Heres a Wild Eastern Rosella,digiscoped at 80 feet,through an ED 80,with a 18mm Vixen Ortho.

Hi John

Three excellent photos; quite a feat for afocal, I’m very impressed with their sharpness. Have they been cropped? I ask because during my limited forays into digiscoping, I always ended up with a circular vignette.

Do you get many of these beautiful birds in your back garden?

Cheers

Nice images John, beautiful birds but the cheeky beggars keep digging up my bulbs along with the sulphur crested cockatoos.

Hi,Dennis

Yes they are cropped,in Picasa2,UNLESS,I zoom the camera a little,to get rid of it.

The pics are not radically processed,simply cropped,if necessary,and sharpened 1 unit,if necessary.

The eyepiece used is a Vixen .965, 18mm Orthoscopic, fitted to a home made 1.25" adapter,I cut the wide edge off the eyepiece,so I could fit the top of a 35mm film cannister, over it.

This allows the camera tube to be a reasonably, snug fit on top of the eyepiece lens,so the shot is fairly centered.

Although,I have often seen the Beautiful Rosellas,in the trees before (Long distance away),I have Never had one in my yard, until my Mate gave me a little feeder,a couple of weeks ago.

Now,I get birds all over the place.

As to Sharpness,

Well,I have included a couple of shots from today,(the Rosella came back),
but,on the ground this time

I tried a 15mm El cheapo Plossl,You all know where it's from,

Pics now at 40x,instead of 33x,with the ortho.

Not Bad,But,Obviously,not as sharp.

Regards.

Hi Jeanette,

You are spot on,Indeed, one of the prettiest birds I have ever seen,

I consider myself extremly lucky to have him come to my yard.

His Mate was here today also, but she was behind the edge of the house, and I couldn't see her with the ED80.

Hi Ving,

I also consider the first pic,to be the best of,

You really have to get the ED80 focused, just right.

I took some earlier pics,......not worth posting.

Hi,Leon,

Glad you also liked the pics.

The Rosella,is indeed a fine looking bird, and to me,usually, not easy to photgraph,as the buggers, are very, timid, and at the slightest noise,or movement.
They are gone.

I have been waiting to get one for quite a while.

Hi,Astroron,

I also didn't know they grew in the ground,BUT,I wouldn't like to plant any.

The camera,I use is letting me down a little too,

It is a Canon A 460,which is, known for producing noisy shots.

I cant really complain,as I,am happy with the results, and cant afford anything better, for a while.

I did have an Olympus fe 130,which took better photos, but gave it to our Daughter,as it took too long to initialise.

By the time IT,was ready to take photos, too Damn late, the Bird, or,whatever, had flown.

Regards.

great stuff we have a pair that have been getting fed to well for a couple of years now :).. yes they are a very timid bird ,despite us being round them for a long time they still are extremely wary .. they have just finished this years brood off and are bringing there young down atm.. I guess they are a little more tolerant these days as we can sit out back quite close to them .

listen for em complaining if your to close to there seed , they actually whinge quite a lot

Hi Robin,

Glad you liked the pics also,

Your right the Bokeh,is quite good,I have the ED80,and the ortho to thank for the shots,no skill on my part,I just hold the camera up to the eyepiece.

Heres another taken today,I think it is the best so far,

Not as sharp,as I would like though,I THINK,I used the 15mm Plossl,to get a little closer, and zoomed the camera to get rid of the vignette,no other processing, except a reduction in size.

John, I was assigned by the Age last year to photograph an old war plane in the middle of a lake in western Victoria which was once dry & used for practising take offs & landings. It must have been at least 600 metres away & in about 2 metres of water so i hooked my DSLR up to my orion ED80 & I was surprised at how good the resolution was & how well it pulled the subject in.Not practical for everyday shooting but certainly gave me good 'reach' when i needed it.

Hi Robin,

All the old aircraft are interesting to me,
I would love to see your photo.

No Doubt the ED80,is a very versatile Scope.

Hi Nightstalker,

Nice shots also,

I read somewhere they dont make good pets,
If hand reared, they are ok,for a while, but allways become agressive, and bite.

As a Pet,I will stick to our Spoilt Rotten absolutely adorable, Cockatiel.

I think your probably right johno.. we have been round them a while now and
for a parrot they are very antisocial .. our pair haveing just reared there young have already got rid of them and are alone again ..
:confuse3:I must point this fact out to our children:D

we have 3 cockateils and a disturbed budgie for company :)

I absolutely love Cockatiels,

We have had Budgies all our Married life, 33 years, but have NEVER,had such Interaction,as we do with our 3 year old Cockatiel.

He was not Hand Raised,as was recommended,

But,has become so tame,he says hello to us by name,
IE,hello Mum,Hello Pop,Greets, by name,both of our Daughters,and 3 out of 5 of our grandchildren.

Some people say,Cockatiels dont talk that well.

They are Wrong.

This little bloke talks very well,

Saying,"I drop it",if he PUSHES a biscuit from his cage,
"Pick up Mum, Come,on"

I say,"Do you like Girls",he responds,with a wolf whistle.

That is a SMALL sample,of his Vocabularly.

He loves to have breakfast with us,taking food from whatever we are having.

He Threatens us sometimes, with his beak, running it along a finger,Nibbling.

BUT,NEVER,bites us.

He will nibble our ear,and then put his head down for a scratch.

Totally Spoilt, Bloody Sook.

We love him Dearly.

Regards.John

Hi,Daniel,

Thanks for your kind words, and Interest,

Your right about our Cockatiel, being a great Pet,

We also have a dog,who howls Mournfully,if the phone rings for a while, Without being answered, like when we are outside,

The Bloody Bird, has learnt to imitate the ringing phone,
Drives the dog nuts, and us as well,as we rush inside to answer it.

Cheers.John
