Hi all, and thanks for the welcome.:D
I'm pretty happy this week after purchasing my first telescope (LX90) and managing to work out the alignment after a few sorry early attempts. I've wanted to buy a telescope for a long time and finally took the plunge last week.
This looks like a great site and doubly so because it's based in Australia and is VBulletin which I'm pretty familiar with. It's a good choice for BBSs.
It's great to see another librarian type here too ving. I manage 2 small rural TAFE campus libraries.
Thanks again, I already feel at home.
Hi John. I work at Rockdale.... you know, the library service thats getting the new building
its funny, we have a reputation because of that. I was at a Ref Librariands confrence at the State Lib. and some librarian from Lithgow giggled when I said I was from Rockdale... oh well...

ving: I won't laugh. I have no idea about the Rockdale library's new building or reputation. I'm a bit out of touch with the news and such and have never gone to a conference. I'm not a member of ALIA so I'm right out of the loop. I'm curious now though!?:confuse3:
Council has been talking about building a new central library for at least 20 years...
Typically we hae out-grown our current building which used to be council cambers. we throw out new(ish) books cause we dont have room for them

Welcome John and parallaxview. Iceinspace is a forum like no other, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. Did you come of your own free will or were you coerced by Mike....:D

That's very funny re: the newish books. I worked at a joint use TAFE/Public Library awhile ago and the council were a bit tight with the pennies and operated completely differently to TAFE.
Thanks everyone for the wonderful welcome.
Acropolite: In answer to how I came across Iceinspace. I googled it, liked what I saw and joined immediately. I was having a few problems aligning my LX90 and searching for answers. There were some good suggestions here. I belong to a fair few music forums and they're a lot less friendly than here.
:rockband:
I'd also be interested in finding out if there are any local astronomy groups near Young that I can join. I used to belong to the SA Astro soc. many years ago. I loved going to the Stockport observatory.

2 months left on contract... my boss is looking for other work for me at the uni.. plus i have been looking around myself... will be working some part time work in another part of the uni when contract is up, and then probably just be a casual in the library. too many staff for the position im in, and not enough work coming through atm!
