Description
I’ve recently taken delivery of a smaller and more portable telescope, and so I’m selling my TV-102 system with Gibraltar mount (it turns out that portability and set-up time is more important to me than aperture – I’m really lazy!). I’m sure this brand and telescope needs no introduction, but here is the description from the TV website nevertheless:

“With the Tele Vue-102 we offer the amateur a simpler, less expensive, 4" refractor which retains Tele Vue's core values; outstanding optical performance and superb mechanical quality.”
4"/102mm aperture
880mm f/8.6 focal length
2 element designIncluded in this deal are the following:
TV-102
2" Everbrite diagonal
2" to 1.25" reducing adapter
TV clamshell (mount ring)
Starbeam finder
Hard-shell carrying case (with one desiccant tin thrown in for free)
Gibraltar 5 mount
All screws, wing nuts and hex keys that came with telescope and mount
Manual signed by Al Nagler(Sorry, I’m keeping the 20mm Plossl.)

This telescope has been owned for approximately one year and has been well cared for. It is in as new condition and has been kept 100% free of dew and stored in a desiccated case when not in use. The optics have not been touched to my knowledge and are free from any blemishes - when I inspect the objective with a flashlight I can’t see anything noteworthy. However, there is some dust build-up on the glass, but in my opinion this has not affected the viewing and so I chose to leave it alone.

The mount has similarly been cared for and covered when in storage, but has cosmetic scratches around the clamshell mounting holes (unavoidable in the dark I’m afraid!).

The powder-coated / anodized surfaces of all individual parts (telescope, finder, diagonal etc) are like new. I could not find any scratches.

If you have any questions or if I’ve missed anything please ask and I’ll update the information in my post. Here are some photos of everything (if you want a photo of any particular part just ask):

Price
I am asking $4000 ono for this complete system (plus postage if required). Everything was purchased new from Bintel for a total of approx $5850. I might split things up into the various components if the whole package doesn’t sell.

Postage:
I would prefer a local or regional pickup. I am located in Gladstone, which is in central Queensland (one hour from Rockhampton and five hours north of Brisbane).

I am prepared to drive to somewhere like Brisbane or even meet someone half-way if necessary to deliver the telescope personally.

I will ship the telescope and mount anywhere in Australia if necessary, but I would prefer not to (I don’t have the shipping boxes anymore and it’s a pain to get all the packing and paperwork in order).

Thanks for looking. :)

Hello all,

I've decided to reduce the price for this complete package to $3750.

I hope I'm not being too unreasonable - this same telescope (with diagonal and mount ring) costs over $4000 new, and this price doesn't include the mount or starbeam finder.

Thanks for looking.

I am a little confused or have missed something, you had the complete package up for $4000 originally but now the "complete" package does not include mount and is just $250 less.
:help2:

I’m guessing here, but I assume the seller meant the new $4000 package does not include the extra items of the mount or starbeam finder, whereas the seller’s “for sale” package, at the new reduced price, does include these, making it more of a bargain?

Cheers

Dennis

I'm sure Crescendo will confirm. A few months back I got to observe with a TV102 for 3 weeks. Beautiful scope.

The way I read it, he's daying he's selling the complete package for $3750.
He then goes on saying this telescope costs over $4000 new...so for less, you're getting a mount and starbeam finder as well. Very good deal, IMO.

Hi all,

Sorry the confusion due to wording on my part. Dennis and DJVege are correct in their reasoning.

The price for everything in the original post is $3750.

Now, if you were to buy brand new at 2006 prices, the telescope package (with diagonal, adapter, mount ring and 20mm Plossl) would cost ~$4200, the mount would cost ~$1100, and the Starbeam would cost ~$400.

I was trying to say that if you were to buy only the telescope package brand new, it would still cost more than what I'm offering, and this way you get the mount and finder too.

I hope this clears everything up.

This total package is still for sale!

I've dropped the price for everything to $3250 and I'll include the 20mm Plossl too.

This great telescope needs to go to a home where it'll be used more often. :)

That is such a good price. If I hadn't bought a Megrez 90 two months ago I would be jumping at it.

I'm not sure about the policy on bumping here, but here goes.

*Bump*

I won't bump this thread again if there's no further interest. I'll probably re-list next year after Christmas.

If the shipping options are holding anyone back, please be aware that I will ship anywhere in Australia - I'd just prefer a pickup or to deliver it myself in the central QLD (or further) area, that's all.
