Yep, I'm still pushing the Toucam.
The sky was sooooo perfect I couldn't resist firing it up.
It is hard to get the data I used to, but it's still fun getting what I can. I did take some images of 2 Galaxy Clusters in Pegasus, but poor old Toucam just couldn't quite get them
But I did get some reasonable images of other objects.
These are my results of imaging from 9pm until 4am.
All with ED80, FR, Modded Toucam, Astronomiks IR/UV filter, capture levels pushed to max on everything. All images are 10 x 3 minutes each, stacked in Registax.
1. NGC 300 Spiral (didn't quite work)
2. Tarantula
3. Trifid
4. The Running Man (first time I've imaged Running man :) )
5. Orion Nebula
what makes you think the toucam is dying in the butt ken?
those pics seem fine to me (apart from teh van goughs ears of course)

ahhhh.
It now takes twice as long an exposure or more to pick up what it used to pick up, and the detail is dropping.
After talking to a few people, apparently the chips do not wear out, but components start to deteriate. This could be why the Amp is getting hotter than it used to
It has become practically impossible to capture fainter galaxies, whereas is used to be fairly easy. I have gone back to factory settings several times too just in case, but nothing helps.
Never mind, I'm still having fun :)

why dont you just get another web cam or a dsi they are reasonable...add a car cooler ..less noise and you are totaly back in business.
I reckon you could ride a horse until it was dead kick it in the gutz and ride it another ten miles...if you are as good at riding as web cam work:lol::lol::lol:
Are you interested in a dlsr? I could keep an eye out;)

Alex, thanks for the suggestions.
After buying the stuff to make my Dew Heaters I have about $4 left.
Do you know of any DSI's or DSLR's for $4 ???
I am still stuck on Injury Pension

Ask the Universe Ken!!
You've pushed and continue to push the limits of Toucam imaging I reckon - you'll get a DSLR soon, and you're going to blow all of us away. If you can do THAT with a webcam, imagine what's ahead!?
Love the detail/texture in your Orion Neb and Tarantula pics.

AND
For my Birthday 5 weeks ago, Laurie (RAJAH) bought me an 80gb mobile Hard-drive :) and my kids also bought me an AS&T subscription. :)
But I have to let you in on a secret.
My other present is a Meade DSI that Bert bought me for my birthday, :) but due to all the back-orders, it hasn't arrived yet. I was going to spring it on everyone once it arrived, but Alex is going to get up to something and I don't want him spending dollars when I already have the DSI coming.
Thanks for trying to help  It is very much appreciated.
