I have finally got the EQ6 with the Mel Bartels system autoguiding very well. It was just a matter of working out the optimum numbers for GuideMaster and the mount and figuring out how to enter them. The digital calipers on the focuser makes focusing and changing filters a breeze.

Here is a first serious image 2.4 MB

Details
Canon 5DH, modded 100ED at 686mm f/6.8, EQ6 mount
5x8min at 1600ISO with Astronomik HA filter
6x8min at 500ISO and 6x8min at 1600ISO with Hutech Nebula filter
Merged the nebula filter data with EasyHDR and then added the HA data with ImagesPlus. A bit of levels in PS.
Not too bad from a light polluted suburban site.

Wow, that's a lovely and detailed image Bert. the large image has so much to see in it and the Tarantula really jumps out at you.

Very nice indeed.

Thanks all. I am trying to do something different, show all the detail whether bright or dim at the same time on widefields. This is not easy. I am slowly learning and seem to be getting better. This is the real fun of astrophotography, to get better at it by practice and learning.
At least it keeps me off the streets at night!
And ving that pink costs a fortune to be able to collect!

Here is a version where I summed each set of images.
5 HA summed
6 neb at 500ISO summed
6 neb at 1600ISO summed
Used EasyHDR and IP as before.
This really brings up the faint stuff but is also a bit noisier and any minor gradient will also showup.

Sorry Bert, a tad noisy for the exposure time and effort. The 5D is a top piece of kit, try harder.

Yes I suppose you are correct Bassnut. I will not start a sentence with but normally. But it is an interesting image never the less.
