Hi all,
Not sure if there is a thread for it but I am not too proud to admit my mistakes- and all I can give in return at the moment is a laugh for all of the assistance the IIS members have given me to date.
I finally had a free night to try out my binoculars in my back yard. Out came my banana lounge, my copy of Heaven's Above, red LED headlamp (white LED headlamp with cellophane), warm clothes and my binoculars.
I live near Southland Shopping Centre in Melbourne, have trees all around me (Can only look directly above) and my neighbour has a porch light(!) so the sky is very bright at night- plus the (just past full) moon was up a little.
Eyes adjust to the light, I look up and think I can see the "teapot" in Sagittarius. It does not look quite right, something is wrong, having seen it before in dark skies and it did not quite match the drawing in heaven's above's but still with all of the light and my excitement...
So I searched for M22 and found a cluster- woo hoo! Looked at it for about 10 minutes (nice!) and went to bed satisfied. :)
Last night it was very clear at home and I noticed Scorpio in the sky- hmmm...that tail, and other stars around it, looked sort of similar to the teapot and exactly what I saw the other night but inverted. D'oh! I was looking at M7.
I cannot wait to see M22!
