Spent most of the weekend visiting relatives in a country locale , before setting out the weather looked crook so i didnt take the scope except a pair of binos. Wouldnt you believe it Saturday night after a cloudy day turned out to be absolutely perfect ,excellent conditions and just stunning velvet dark skies even from the outskirts of the small town. Doesnt matter how many times you see the night sky, particlarly the dust lanes of the Milky way, from a dark site its always breathtaking , lucky indeed is the person who can view under such skies regularly. Interesting contrast tonite when i got home and looked up at the light polluted sky. Managed to get one pic before the camera battery failed , just before the exposure finished someone put on a light so the shot doesnt do the actual view justice......ahhh kicking myself not taking the full kit :juggle:

Wow that's a georgeous shot Stuart! How long was that exposure? Was that on a fixed tripod?

The illuminated house looks nice in that photo.. makes it feel like it's a full naked eye view.. wouldn't that be spectacular, to be able to see the milky way like this all the time.

You won't forget next time will you Stuart. You could have thrown you little 80 and a tripod in and it wouldn't have taken up any room at all :P Just rubbin' it in :D

Nice shot though :) Really nice shot.

Details man, details.

Thanks.....the shot was a 2 min exposure @1600iso using a 17mm nikkor lens on a fixed tripod directed at scorpius around 7.00pm. The D70 was used overtime during the day so i just managed toi get one shot before the battery went unfortunately . Kicking myself for not bringing the gear because conditions were perfect , would have been great to just get another minute on the shot but as you can see theres trailing evident on the 2 minute exposure . Around 6.00pm it was cloudy still but half hour later it had vanished , perfect views for tracing the milky way from scorpius to canis major setting in the west.We had vibrate celebrations going on for the West Coast eagles win so i had to be sneaky to enjoy the view :ashamed: next time ill be packing the full kit even if its snowing :fight:
