Well, here's another one of my boring pictures

6m 30s Total Exposure
13 x 30s
Nikon D50 @ ISO1600
250mm? F5.3
DeepSkyStacker

If anybody wants to take an edit of this, I can upload the TIF file from DSS.

There's so much light pollution here it's unbelievable. Seeing & Transparency were in the 8's & the moon wasn't a big factor towards polaris.

Good stuff Ingo :)

Are you still in NJ?

No, came home monday afternoon. Was an OK vacation, could've been better.

Light pollution to the MAX! The piers go out to the ocean & light up the sky. I could barely see Jupiter & Antares

Thanks

I like it. Something we'll never see from downunder.

True, mark, well, not for a few thousand years when the Earth rotates a bit and star locations change... ;)

Nice crisp image Ingo, I've always wondered what Polaris looked like.

I like polaris, I don't have to have a tracking method  I could do a 7hr exposure & it'd stay sharp. Too bad light pollution sucks.

I don't even know if there's any cool nebulosity behind polaris.

Polaris isnt boring! At least you can see your pole star with naked eye

Ingo

Is your pole star like mag 24.16?

Sigma Octantis definetely isnt naked eye.(Ok, now i wait for someone to reply saying that they can see it with their naked eyes no worries!)

Ive never seen it naked eye Robin, but my skies are not that dark, but i think i have heard that if it is dark enough one can spot it.

Then again that was a over heard conversation.

Yep, I can see Sigma Octans with the unaided eye from my home. But it's very faint. And we don't have the luxury of having it at the exact pole.

My tired 50 year old eyes can just make it out, but when I shine the laser on it, my boys say it's easy to see. Ahhh, to have young eyes again.

Nobody wants to take a stab at the TIFF file? :)
