Total Lunar Eclipse - 24 hours to go!

Hi all

It's only just over a day until the Total Lunar Eclipse (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/index.php?id=63,409,0,0,1,0), which starts at approximately 6pm AEST (Penumbral Phase). It's worth remembering that the penumbral phase is quite difficult to observe, and you may not notice any change in brightness until the Partial phase begins - just before 7pm AEST. So don't give up!

It's very positive to hear of many groups getting together to observe the eclipse, including scout groups, kayakers, etc. It's a great chance to get outside with your family and friends and observe a fairly rare event. The next Total Lunar Eclipse visible for Australians isn't until December 2010!

The next chance to see the moon slip entirely into terrestrial shadows will be on February 21, 2008, but after that the wait is longer: December 2010.

We have some nasty clouds appearing at the moment, but i reckon it will clear, but i suppose that is Astronomy

I saw most of it going into total, then it fell behind some trees. I saw some redness in Umbra though & got some bad pictures of the start of umbra. Got some nice pictures of it in partial though.

It always has to be the slightest bit cloudy during eclipses UGH! :doh:

Looked excellent here too. Conditions were perfect!:thumbsup: It will be interesting to see what I can salvage. I struck a minor technical hitch with the ToUcam when we got to the umbral phase:rolleyes:... oh well you get that!:lol:
