Hello & GS Finder project

Hello Everyone,

It's good to be on board the "ice" forum. I thought I'd put my first post here as I am a beginner as such to this forum (and it does say "Beginners start here"). I have actually been doing astronomy as a hobby and a job (on & off) for some time now. It's been around 34 years since I started as a teenager. A part of my job involves astronomy in a teaching capacity, so this topic occasionally comes up from time to time, depending upon student choice, amongst other factors.

I thought that I'd soon add a current project of mine, regards attaching the new Guan Sheng red dot finder to a simple refractor. I'll put a post up (in the correct forum section) explaining the construction, together with a photo, when the paint and lacquer dry.

Also, please excuse me if I don't look daily at the forum as my work can be demanding at times, so I will get back to you eventually if you ask me something.

Thanks to all for your warm wishes. :)

I've been watching how other forum members have added details to their signature's. So I won't keep you wondering iceman, I've listed my equipment at the bottom of the page. Also, the finderscope had its second coat of paint today so you won't have to much longer before the article starts to emerge on the equipment section of the forum.

Now I'll try to tell you all more about myself (without breaking any forum rules ofcourse). I'll tell you my age this year. It's the last two digits in this famous old TV show, Hawaii XX. Did you work it out? In case you're too young to have seen this program, my age is the same as the second biggest Australian note.
Secondly, I work for the Government. :eyepop:Don't worry, I'm not a spy (007) but a High School Teacher. Science & Physics is my specialty. Also, I think you can tell that I like to joke, even if the students tell me that the're a bit lame at times (that's the jokes, not me by the way).

Okay, more serious now. My Dad got me interested in Astronomy as a young boy. I loved the names of the stars and constellations. Then when I got my first telescope, (a Tasco 60mm refractor in 1972) :astron:we enjoyed some time seeing Jupiter and stars clusters. Unfortunately, the Declination setting circle didn't work correctly, so I had to return it to the shop. Mum said I looked the saddest she'd ever seen. Later in 1973, I got the replacement (a 75mm f/15 UNITRON equatorial refractor, WOW!). Dad and I enjoyed years with that telescope as well as my school mates. When 1986 came, I got the big one (an orange tube C8 from Celestron). Later, when I moved out, I gave Dad the Unitron. Now I'm married to a lady that I can only descibe as a gift to me from God, my beautiful wife xxxxxxxxxx. Woops, nearly did it. Well, I'll call her "Little Glob" for the purpose of this story. It's just the two of us but we have a lot of extended family.:love:

I really like art and am looking forward to doing sketches of astronomical objects. :painting:It should be fun to do them with the thought of putting some onto the forum.

Well I better end up now as I don't want to take up too much space on the forum. I hope that you enjoyed my brief story on the "astronomical" side of my life.
