TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Dangerous Surf and Damaging Winds
For people in the Southeast Coast District and Fraser Island and the eastern
Darling Downs and Granite Belt District.
Issued at 6:00 am on Tuesday 21 August 2007
Synoptic Situation: A deep trough lies off the southern coast of Queensland
through into northeastern New South Wales. A dominant low pressure system is
expected to develop in the trough east of the Gold Coast this morning. A strong
pressure gradient will develop between this system and a firm ridge along the
New South Wales coast.
Large seas are developing on the Gold Coast, and are expected to develop north
to the Sunshine Coast and Fraser Island by late today. Damaging wind gusts to
90km/h are expected to develop in exposed coastal areas of the Gold Coast this
morning and should spread north towards Fraser Island by late in the day.
Damaging wind gusts to 90 km/h may also develop over inland parts of the
Southeast Coast and eastern parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt District
during the morning, mainly about elevated terrain.
The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should:
- Stay clear of the water in the open ocean as large waves and rip currents
develop
- Secure loose outdoor items
- beware of fallen trees and powerlines

Wow - I'm looking at a becalmed skull and crossbones pirate flag dropping in my neighbour’s garden, whilst above me, as I write, clear blue skies beckon from our study window! Thanks for the warning.
Cheers

that would be nice h0ughy, but we could do without the winds.
It is absolutely beautiful here this morning, crystal clear skies, hardly a breath of wind, 20 deg and glorious.

You must have got up late Paul,
it was 10 deg when I got up, (2:30) still we had a cloudless sky though.
I got up so early to put my Grandson, Adam's bike together for his birthday, and to study, today was exam day, and I passed.
Aircraft systems exams are marked right away, but the certificate take a few days.
Not much stargazing weather forecast for the next week though.
Mike.

From Brisbane - dull, grey, damp weather with mist laden low cloud and the occasional heavy shower. Right now, a Butcher Bird is warbling his/her sweet melodies whilst sheltering from the rain under the eaves.

Not as impressive as Hurricane Dean but Cape Moreton (east of Brisbane) has been recording sustained 100 kph winds and gusts of 120 kph. Springbrook behind the Gold Coast has recorded 174mm rain since 9am :eyepop:. Lets also hope we get some decent rain in Brisbanes dam catchments.

Yes, a lovely drop of rain.
I've just come in from a walk around the front paddocks, checking up on old Bundy boy, we've got lots of branches down, wouldn't be surprised if there isn't some trees down as well.
