Yeah, M83 has been the pick of the bunch for me atm. I haven't finished my M8 or other nebula shots yet as I'm having trouble getting the colour to come out in the nebula.

Very nice images Paul, you've done a great job with these two galaxies. Gee, weren’t you a busy bee at astrofest! Remind me to kick your tripod next time!

Cheers

Now that is really cruel Dennis, great shots Paul. Nice to see a downunder flavour of that famous galaxy. To me here it is a mere smudge that rises oh so briefly above the weeds to the north for a very short time.

Looks excellent - I wish mine where anywhere near that good. I tried for M31 last night - from where my scope is set-up it seems too low in the sky (given where trees and houses are). Do you go to a field that is really flat - or you just have really unobstructed views to the North?

These shots were taken from Duckadang at the Qld Astrofest. We had to wait for them to clear the trees at about 5 degrees and then it was clear sailing. I can get them easily from my back yard but only for about and hour between trees. From memory I think they get about 30+ degrees above the Northern horizon.

I've found that even though M31 is quite bright in the center, I need a lot of exposure to get it looking good in the outer lanes.
