My First Dawn Photograph.

Hello.

I dont really participate in astronomy related hobby anymore these days, I spend most of my time participating in photography with my 30D mostly Macro and Nature photography, though i still do love Astronomy, and i do still look at where we set our feet upon as earth from space, and look into the sky with eyes towards the universe.

Anyways, ive been pretty much photographing everything on earth (in the universe), and i really love my 30D, ive wanted to try some dawn/dusk photographs for awhile, but i hadent gotten around to it properly.

I tried my first dawn session thursday mourning at Palm Beach, 180shots or so, (the more the merrier!)

this one is offically my first dawn photograph, im qutie happy with it, i saw a battered red ball washed up on the shore line and decided to add it into my photograph.

i composed this photograph out of two photographs, one to catch the shadows and the other to catch the highlights, as the dynamic range was to wide to fit on a single histogram (photograph), and that i dont use graduated ND filters.

what do you all think? id love to see some feedback, seeing this is my 1st dawn photograph.

this is officially my firt post on this forum, so i feel it's fitting.

i quite like it. my view starts at teh red ball and move up and left towards the sun off the edge. and i have to go back again and make sure i didn;t miss anyhting. a nice amalgamation of two photographs

Adrian, that is a top shot for your first attempt at dawn photography, actually it dosen't like like a first attempt, it's a beauty.

Adrian, I love it, beautifully composed and nicely processed.
If this is your first dawn image then I can't wait to see them when you get some practice. ;)

I find once you start with astro photography using a DSLR, it's only natural to venture into main stream photography as well.
Actually the two complement each other and you learn a lot about colour and composition, not to mention post processing.

One small suggestion on this image would be to boost the colour levels slightly using maybe the curve function if you have PS or equivalent.

Leon, i guess ive had alot of practice with my camera and post-processing, ive shot some dusks before, but never shot on a beech or a dawn untill recently, i think that ill be doing it alot more often now, i enjoy it, thanks.

Rocket Boy, thank you, i totaly agree with you about starting Astrophotography with a DSLR, thats what has brang me here with what im doing now and im glad, i was thinking that maybe perhaps later down the track in my life when ive got my life sorted out, i could allways start up doing astrophotography again, and your right im sure my skills from conventional photography would compliment it.

do you mean boosting a color channel in curves or increasing the contrast to strengthen the color with curves?
