View Full Version here: : Bad timing
I've recieved my course acceptance letter from the Rural Fire Service to do the "Village Firefighter" course which will allow me to attend motor vehicle accidents as well as fighting structural fires. I been waiting about 18 months to get on this course so naturally I'm wrapped with this.
The course runs over three nights of theory and two days of practical followed by a number of months assessment back with my brigade. and when does this begin, yep, you guessed it August 28th from 7:00 until 10:00 .
I'll have to nip out in the coffee break and have a visual at instead.
So when is the next favourable Lunar eclipse for the East coast due.

Just a thought.....Is there another VF course booked that you may be able to do so you don't miss out on the eclipse. The eclipse it appears starts at 17:00, what time is the cause, 19:00??? you may be able to do it,

Actually it's not that funny if we miss it. My checking suggests that the next viewing of the Moon through the full transition in and out of full eclipse, from Melbourne, is centered around 1:30am 11 December in 2011. And after that, the next is in 2015.

Yep, I know what you mean, I'm working that night, not impressed....I'm thinking about taking the night off work or swapping my shift with someone else....it's a long time to wait for the next one......:ship1:

Hi Ric
Ouch, talk about a bitter-sweet taste eh! You guys that do this sort of work are awesome and the community has a lot to thank you for. It is such a great shame about the timing though. Hopefully a few IIS’ers will be able to capture the event and post their images, so at least you’ll get to see something.
All the best
Dennis

If it were me, I would definitely be feeling sick...you had better let them know ahead of time that you can feel a migraine coming on...maybe even the flu...
I feel for you Ric !
:(
If it's any consolation, I may be in the same boat, I may have to work that evening, but I won't know until that day.
I hope somehow it works out for you mate.
:)
As great as the photos are that are posted here for these events, nothing quite matches the view even through the trusty binos - does it! I remember the partial eclipse last year - my 30 second view through binos, at 4am or something - priceless....

Ric - maybe look at it this way:
1) You've been keenly waiting for your course for 18 whole months.
2) You probably only heard about the eclipse a few short weeks (if) ago.
Which have you been waiting for longer and which is more important?
:D

Hi Ric,
Must be a real bummer. Hope your coffee break is a long one. Maybe you can get the instructor interested and convince him to extend it. Good luck!

Ric, you might be lucky enough to have an outdoor MVA exercise that night.
The instructor will take you all outside to a wrecked car and show you all the things to look out for, cutting seat belts, etc.
And you'll be standing there watching the Eclipse, with the instructor saying "Excuse me Ric, but the car is down here . . . Ric . . . RIC!!!!!!"
Thanks for the encouragement everyone, it's greatly appreciated  and with bush fire season fast approaching I know that I will be of more value to my team and community so I have to go with the priorities first.
I probably will be able to sneek a quick peek during the coffee break and I know for sure that there are going to be heaps of awesome images posted to keep me going until 2015. :D
John, they have changed the manual to a green one now but it's still the same 400 odd pages to work through :)

Ah well, started off Red when I did my training with the PRS some 30 years ago , then went to "The Grey Book", bout time they changed the colour again. :D
Cheers
I think the green is to put you in a calm state before you start reading ;)
