Canon mains adaptor: ACK-700 AC adapter

Has anyone used the Canon ACK-700 AC adapter?

I'm considering it, as it's so much cheaper than the Heutech one (AU$109 is the best price I've found, vs US$129 for the Heutech one). Postage additional for either.

The problem is needing an inverter. Which makes me wonder what voltage supplied the power pack puts out.

Still wondering about the output voltage (to know if the power pack can be bypassed and hence not need the inverter.... don't like the idea of having to carry around an inverter too...)

Roger I power my cooleld 350D with a specially adapted power pack, that I can just plug straight into a cig lighter socket. see www.centralds.net ;)

edit - I thought he had hid battery modded connection in the price list - email him and ask - cost me around the $100 mark from memory but that was a while ago

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking about Roger. I have the AC adapter for my 300D and wouldn't be without it now. Why would you need an inverter?

I don't use the 350D in the observatory, I only really use it out in the field where I'm running from a 12v battery, and don't have mains AC ... so I'd need an inverter to go from 12v -> AC Adaptor -> 350D.

Or am I missing the obvious? :shrug:

No, I get it now:thumbsup: When you linked to the AC adapter I couldn't work out why you would want an inverter.

Ahh yeap. :) That's just because DC adaptors seem as scarce as hens teeth and darn expensive :) ... or DIY which I'm trying to avoid :)

Actually very easy to make. Just use a 7808 2 amp regulator, 2 small caps , a cigaret lighter connector with fuse and a small little box. Total of under 10 bucks, and around 20 minutes to make. Voltage should be around 7.6 - 7.8 V depending on length and thickness of cabling used. Then just plug it in the car or across a battery. For high effeciency, use a sitchmode regulator (about the same size as the normal regulator but switch mode bits in it).


I have been using one for 2 years now for my 20D. No probs.
