Hey all,
got some colour down last night on my previously posted Helix lum image.
Well, it wasn't a great night for seeing, transparency was just ok.
I missed a corker of a night on Sunday.. can't blame no one but myself... damn.......
Could have done with even more colour data, plus adding Ha would have cleaned up the central nebulosity, but doing 135 mins of colour I thought would have to do + the previous 130min lum.
Never an easy object that's for sure, especially when conditions don't cooperate.
Perhaps a little on the crunchy side, but I did some selective denoising, but didn't want to clean it up too much around the neb and take away the contrast.. this is where the Ha data would have come in very handy....
Maybe I will get some down this week weather permitting.

All the best for now.

Hi Rich, that is a wonderful image in my books. You have picked up some nice fine detail within the nebula and the colours look great.
Hope your weather conditions improve for you to collect more data.
Cheers

Nice work Rich, this is really good.
You are clearly in similar weather conditions to me by the sounds of it. I never truly understood your rantings in the past when I lived in Canberra, I believed you but just didn't appreciate the hardships you were going through..I do now though!
I like your choice of colour balance on this Helix although it appears just slightly green on my moniter (have I said thisto you before..? ) and it is interesting to compare this rendition to the one I did with our combined data.

Mines more blue/red (probably not all that natural really but I seem to be drawn to that colour sceem for some inane reason? :P ). The addition of Ha clearly brings out more detail in the nebulosity though huh?
I admire your tenasity and I am with you in spirit when ever you are struggling with the blasted coastal elements now
By the way, when I was at your site looking at the Helix I noticed the NGC 6744 image - it's a beauty mate! Yeh every image just about could do with more data but I like your colour balance on this one, nice work again!
Yours in conditions missery

Hey there Ric,
thanks for the nice comments:thumbsup:
I was happy with the data the red channel picked up which I guess is more in the Ha band wave length.... but still am hoping to actually get some Ha to put this baby to rest for at least another year.
My astro mate Rob (aka rpsastronomy) and I are actually drinking the evening into clear skies, which has worked many times in the past... still the coastal swell is up and it's onshore winds that amount to crap....
Cheers:cheers: for that;)
Good on ya Mike,
I too like your attitude of making the best of things when it's really pretty average conditions:thumbsup:
As my astro buddy in the seat beside me, with beer in hand... pre curser to his Wild Turkey's.... Rob aka(rpsastronomy) has pointed out, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going";)
I did and still do complain about some of these conditions near and almost on the coast... and your conditions are very similar because you get some good surf in Newie as we get here in Streaky Bay...
As for the Helix, it's always been a bone of contention colour wise.... some have it blue (generally with the old Kodak chips), and with the Sony chips(more green)... but I seem to find that other objects look pretty good with my rgb weights as I have it... just this begger... I'd like it perhaps a bit more blue, but I'm going with what I have...
Thanks a heap for your comments on my Ngc 6744, I did like the way it turned out too.... perhaps a little on the crunchy side, but as you and I like it that way, I didn't intervene with noise reduction.
Chin up old chap, your in good company with others on the coast....
It's good to see some comparisons of what it's really like in the higher climes compared to us at sea level.
Going up that extra few hundred feet certainly will illuminate the coastal crap that seems to plague us beach dwellers.
Still as Rob said,.... aaaahhhh, he can't remember... you know why, he's started on the Wild Turkey's....:drink:
Good on ya Mike, have always enjoyed imaging with you even though we are living half a continent apart...
Thanks Nick...
One of my favourites too, although a hard object to do real justice to.
Cheers guys....
Gonna suck a few more tubes...
Hope your having a good one too..
All the best
Rich:drink::drink::drink:oh, and Rob of corse;):thumbsup:

Very nice Helix Rich!!
Actually like your color balance with it and all the fine detail.....
You have done it great justice considering the conditions..
I think it has just been a bad season for seeing in oz nearly everywhere..:mad2:
I`m amazed at what can be accomplished with a 10" and a nice ccd.
Keep at it as I always enjoy your fine images!!
cheers Gary

Thanks very much Bill:thumbsup:
Cheers for that Gaz,
I agree with you, this years weather's been quite uncooperative.
Last year was very good as I can remember.
Oh well, being starved just makes us that little more eager;)
Yes I'm loving this scope and now I've done those upgrades to the tube and the primary cell, collimation stays in beautifully. Less fuss and more imaging time is a bonus.
All the best you guys:hi:
