Rho Ophiuchi nebula complex, and IC 1284 area

Used the 300mm f2.8 lens from Bert to get this.
6x4 mins ISO200. 300mm f2.8@f2.8
uv/ir filter, modded 350D camera
hand guided. Freezer suit was handy as it was DARN cold. Windy and dry
Processed in Iris then Photoshop, with light use of gradient xterminator to get rid of some gradient.

IC 1284 is 2x4 mins same settings

Very nice. :thumbsup: Upside with the cold weather is it would have helped with the image noise which for this subject would be a major bonus.

All great images Scott. I also noticed that the fact that you stopped down to f/5 for M7 did not introduce diffraction spikes from the iris in the lens as it must have many curved blades. A bonus I had not thought about. Shows you cant equal quality.

These sort of stunning widefields were only possible once with Schmidt cameras and curved film.

The more images the better we can all see.

Thanks Bert. Yes I noticed when I looked down the lens when stopped down, the iris is almost perfectly circular. Such fantastic quality. A joy to use.

Yes I could never imagine taking wide field shots like this in the past, particularily from a suburban location. I used to travel about 1 hour north to the Wallaroo State Forest occasionally when I could to shoot film shots, no where near as deep with film and much slower lenses. Thanks for this gorgeous lens :)

I agree with Jase the Rho Oph framing is slightly unusual but looks good.

I remember the days of film all too well....:whistle: I would "never" photograph in moonlight not to mention high cloud or twighlight let alone from the middle of a costal city! but now..?..no problem! :lol:

Wow, I loved your Antares/ Rho Orphiucus region image....

This is one of my favourite regions and one I can't get or do justice with with what I have at the mo....
