friday /sat for me to if all goes well
A couple of questions from a first timer
easiest way to get there from brisbane ?
how far to nearest town with fuel food etc ?
thanks

Easiest way from Brisvegas is up to Cabulture and then out along the D'Agular Highway, through Kilcoy, then on towards Moore. Turn right just before you get to Moore and head out to Linville. Check out the map to get to Moore
Map http://www.qldastrofest.org.au/html/map.htm
Then image 1 to get to Linville and then image 2 to get to Duckadang. In image 2 Linville is just off the map at the center bottom. Duckadang is on Avoca Esplanade at the dogleg after the river crossing

You know Paul, ever since I met you last year I thought you were a generous fellow! ;)
However we probably have enough people organised for that job! However, I am sure we can find some things for you to do during the week.....:D

Yeah, and I'll have a Courier Mail in the morning, and I would prefer it if my shoes were buffed rather than brushed.
The committee are pulling out all the stops this year. Great guys!
Oh, and the toast, organic white, browned on one side only ...

I'll be arriving Friday morning, going home Sunday morning.
If you are travelling from Brisbane last chance for supplies is at Kilcoy Super IGA.
There is also an Auto Spares store on the right as you come into town, it has a large variety of camping gear. I think they also stock 12volt hair dryers.
Retravision for your rechargable batteries and memory cards.
If you are coming via Ipswich, last stop for food and limited camping supplies is at Toogoolawah IGA and CO OP.

Fun was had by all, and I had really enjoyed meeting up with the spacers in big dob corner (where my 'tiny 20' was dwarfed by Peter's magnificent 30!)
You haven't lived unless you have seen the veil in a 30, that's all I can say:eyepop:
What a time at QLD astrofest. I stayed Thursday to Sunday. Gees i now wish i went the full week. WHAT A TIME :D I now know why it was in the top ten star parties in sky at night. I will post more words what i get time in front of the PC.
No i got to say it:)
Organization of the event was first class.
Accommodation was great.
Food provided by camp managers superb
Facilities were excellent.
Fellow amateur astronomer’s friendly warm welcoming people who I had great pleasure in meeting and talking too.
And the classes during the day were very informative and interesting.
The wife won the female counter weight throwing competition:D
Dennis Simmons won the catch the counter weight competition.:eyepop:
And to top it off the wife won an IIS beanie.

I stayed 4 nights, Wednesday night was cloudy, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights were clear. Friday morning was cold, -0.9C with a breeze.
I looked through three 16" scopes (Ron's, Kevin's and a new 16" Meade Lightbridge), also Len's 18", Norman's 25" and Peter's 30" scope. Saw the pillars of creation in M16 with AstroJunks 20" via a monitor. We saw NGC 6888 the Cresent Nebula through Peter's 30", that was a highlight for me. It looked like this in B&W: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap030415.html. We also followed the coast of the North America nebula with the 30".
I slept in a cubicle on a double decker bed, a mixed dorm with up to 28 in it, many snoring! (a guy from Scotland was one of them!) Luckily earplugs were provided. Ian and Sue cooked great meals and I met lots of iceinspace people and others. I also met two young guys David and Darren from near where I live. The place was crowded, 142 people slept there on Saturday night. Five vendors sold things on Friday and Saturday morning. The talk on Friday was by Donna Burton about her asteroid searches and on Saturday Fred Watson talked about dark matter, dark energy and dark skies. Unfortunately the country and dams are very dry, the Brisbane river is dry at Duckadang and the bore ran dry on Saturday afternoon. There were two dead cows about 1km up the road.

I have very fond memories spending 2-3 nights on Peter's 30"er at 2005
QLD Astrofest. A very nice telescope... Is he still trying to sell it?
