It was just announced on SkyNews, a tornado has just hit South Perth. More info as it comes to hand.

Maybe the Western Australians can tell us about it.

I heard that as well on the Late news, no details as yet.

Hope everyone over there are ok.

Only report coming thru so far is 30,000 homes without power. Let's hope that's all the damage is.

I looked for it on google and came it with lastnights, one a couple of weeks ago, one a couple of years before that. Looks like it's a regular occurence almost yet I lived there for years and never heard of one?

That's because it's all down to global warming and you probably lived there before global warming was invented :P

Cheers,

Umm, it was well south of Perth, at Rockingham, which has the local nick-name of "Tornado Alley" anyway. They regularly get tornados each winter down there, and no one is quite sure why that area gets more than others. It was only a little one, a few years ago we had an F2 go through Fremantle, now that was a story!

Tornados are actually common around Australia - Victoria also get a few and Queensland is known for spawning some biggies - but because there isn't a big population here they don't get as much press. The worse thing is the media makes it worse by calling them 'mini-tornados' as if the USA is the only palce that gets them, but if you look hard enough Europe, China (I think?) and Australia also get them. I've seen impressive pics of tornados in Spain and the Netherlands in the past, plus there have been well publicised stories of tornados in the UK recently too.

Just one of our fronts going through. Down around Waikiki (half way between Perth and Mandura) got a hammering, trees down, power out and some roof damage etc. People ok. Thanks for your thoughts though.

Not much viewing getting done lately. :( But the tank is filling fast. One more like this weekend and we should be full! :)

Moved here from Bunbury WA at the end of last year. We had a couple go through in the 12 months before I left, lots of damage but fortunately no injuries.
Still waiting for my rainwater tank to be delivered, 4+ months lead time , hope it gets here before summer starts.
